What was the first All Ireland championship game not to be played on a Sunday ? Redhot (Cork) - Posts: 698 - 14/07/2017 12:06:22 2016472 Link 0 |
I say it was the fourth match of the Meath and Dublin saga back in 1991 in the first round of the Leinster Championship.

The Leinster Final that year too (v Laois) was also played on a Saturday. Laytown Legend (None) - Posts: 424 - 14/07/2017 13:54:12 2016525 Link 0 |
I think a couple of the Leinster final replays were played on a Saturday like the Dubs and Kildare match in 2000 and the Laois and Westmeath match in 2004.

Was Offaly v Meaty 1997 on a Saturday? I know Tipperary played Kerry once in hurling on a Saturday evening in Thurles in early 90s. If I remember AI QF hurling involving Galway used to be played on a Saturday evening as did Connaught hurling final. Going off the beating track a small but I remember a Louth v Kildare game throwing in Sunday evening around half 6 or 7 once during the 90s. I'd imagine there were games in the 1880s, 1890s and early 1900s that none of us heard of. Laois76 (Laois) - Posts: 1270 - 14/07/2017 19:45:05 2016664 Link 5 |
Nah man, people had to work 6 days a week back then , plus it took about 7 hours to get to Dublin back then from Kerry on a train.
