Amazed so little comment here re the football and hurling situation at moment....where are we going at all?..if managers are not getting provisions to train... Why wait until it crashes down around to complain???...loyalty won't save managers job...

are things as bad as that in Antrim too??..we will huff and puff now and come up with a football manager (another one at bargain price) Antrim have fallen on hard times too in hurling...pity...Offaly is a strange one..where I am from there was this trend in recent years shouting for Kilkenny to win regardless of who they played, I couldnt understand it, while a great team they were/are, the hammerings they gave Offaly and the likes of Laois and Wexford to some degree put Leinster hurling back years..yet lads in Offaly thought it was cool to be heading down to Kilkenny county finals and the likes and their kids going around towns in Offaly with Kilkenny jerseys on them!!...you wouldnt see the opposite in Kilkenny when their barren spell comes...Kilkenny could never beat you by enough and would still go for goals if they were 20 points up...I hear people saying Offaly will come good again..I dont know..where will the players come from..my lad is all soccer and to be honest it isnt as political as GAA...I seen Offaly people shouting for Kilkenny against Wexford a few weeks ago just because some ould lad or one from Wexford gave out to them over a decision in an Offaly/Wexford match many years ago etc...sure thats a load of rubbish..we all have been beside them type of supporters..Offaly need Wexford and Limerick/Waterford/Clare/Laois and Antrim etc to keep the boat afloat while they are in the decline at moment and maybe for years to come..

Sad to see Offaly in such dire straits. A tremendous county with great tradition and respect throughout Ireland with fans to match. I will never forget 1989 and the fantastic reaction of the Offaly players and fans after we had beaten them to reach the All Ireland final, they stood and applauded Antrim off the field. Plus they have the best GAA kit in Ireland.

I don't know the ins & outs of why it's gone so wrong but gives me no pleasure to see how far Offaly have fallen. Someone is going to have to show some real vision to build a long term plan but short term, I can't see any manager making much of a difference.
It's no good for leinster football or hurling to see Offaly in such a state.

I aggree with you on everything, what people may not know is that "apparently" Offaly county board never forgave the then hurling manager Pat Joe Whelehan for that gesture of applauding Antrim off the field after their win over Offaly that day..and on hindsight maybe Offaly needed him at the helm to guide through the young players he managed as minor and U21 before the players progressed to senior..the county board and some supporters felt a bit self belittled by the applauding gesture but I suppose it felt the right thing to do at the time..

It's a double edged seats if I comment , Dublin funding will be thrown up , but conversation is about Offaly it does not lease me to say in the slightest we have met them over the years at underage football and hurling and they are the poorest prepared teams we've played Laois Westmeath leave them for dead

only way offaly can sort out their problems,is in house.starting at underage, getting better hurling and football at underage, put huge effort into a few teams at u10 and u12,but for me the funding of dublin hurling, should be redirected away from them if they care so little as to fix a bunch of club matches for the same time as their county counterparts were playing.that is how you do not promote the game.

Have been a great example of building all Ireland winning teams in both codes without having a large population it's sad to see them struggle in both codes.

The matches that were fixed as the same weekend the dublin hurlets were out to play were set last January. A lot of clubs I know of rearranged their matches for Thursday, Friday and Monday.
