So the hurling draw stated that the weekend hurling qualifiers would be neutral venues Dublin did not agree to play in thurles but the gaa said the game is being played there surely this is unfair on dublin thoughts please :

1. Yes it is unfair on Dublin.

2. It is unfair on Tipp supporters who will now have to choose between the hurling and the football qualifier in Cavan at 2pm.

3. It is unfair on the Cavan county board, bars and restaurants whose income will be down as most Tipp fans will pick the hurling (yep, cue the Cavan jokes)

Course it's unfair. But RTE's hurling pundits decide the venues. Don't know why they bother holding a CCCC meeting at all when Mulcahy and Eddie Brennan pick the venue for them the night before.

Of course. On a similar vein is it not absurd that if Antrim qualified for the U21 final against Tipp it would hve to be played in Thurles.

If any other county yes, but the dubs footballers regularly enjoy home advantage, so not one bit sorry for them. Cork could have home advantage for the quarters. They have to play somewhere.

Dublin v Tipp should be in Tullamore, huge advantage to Tipp playing at home again . Thurles a great venue but for god sake spread it around a bit and generate a bit of interest elsewhere

The Dublin hurlers are not the Dublin footballers and don't enjoy the same advantages. However it's 15 v 15 and a pitch is a pitch. Up the Dubs!!

Pointless thread it makes sense to have them in thurles as a double header.
Kilkenny v Waterford would have been there anyway so crowd wise it made sense to have it as a double header.

Exactly. What have the footballers got to do with it. Personally I think it's wrong that tipp are at home but it's the GAA looking for more revenue as usual.
Gives tipp a better chance most definitely
No body in their right mind would back tipp tho at the min

Against Dublin...at home? I think nobody in their right mind could back Dublin!

No it's not. It's unfair to Dublin. It's also the boring, predictable thing to do, put the hurling on in Thurles and everyone is happy.

Forget about having it in Portlaoise or Tullamore too. There was a brilliant opportunity to have this game in Cavan as a double header with the footballers just like Laois vs Tipp (Football) and Tipp vs Offaly (Hurling) in 2014. There was a great atmosphere that day and the footballers for a change got a Tipp crowd out supporting that they deserve.

There was a lot of nonsense talk about Tipp giving up home advantage last week. This is the time to do it. Keeper 7 and his Longford pals would have a short drive to see it in Bredfni Park. Cavan who finally have a hurling team again after a 6 year absence would get to host a top class knockout hurling championship game.

A load of Dubs live in Virginia and Cavan town, they like a game of football too so that would draw in a good Dublin crowd. With M3 to Kells its easy get to there.

Instead you have Tipp fans frustrated because they have to choose between their two teams. Dublin hurling fans are livid cos they are playing Tipp in Thurles. Cavan pubs and restaurants are disappointed cos less Tipp people will travel now.

All round a big fail by an unimaginative HQ who have no interest promoting hurling outside of where it is already strong.

They will get far more tipp fans in thurles than anywhere else so in their mind it's a massive win!
Would be crazy to have it in Cavan tho in my opinion

our footballers play most our games in croker so no dublin fan can complain about the unfairness of playing in semple stadium

I think the Dublin county board of all people have a nerve complaining about someone having a home venue for a big match. Doesn't seem to bother them most of the time!

If this was played in Hyde Park you'd get at least 3000 roscommon neutrals who are hurling mad and kids who would get to see top quality sides playing in their home patch. I despair at the lack of imagination shown...even put a double header with the footballers.

For me the main problem is the gaa dressing it up as neutral beforehand. The quarter finals are fixed for cork so if they lose the mulster final they would have home advantage. Yes this is unfair but they haven't been advertised as neutral in the run up. The Dublin tipp game is a different story!

Another big problem is the biggest stadiums outside of Croker are nearly all in munster. PUC isn't ready and kilkenny and Waterford fans would rather nip across to thurles than track to limerick/kerry and thurles is the sensible option for that game. Tipp v dubs could be played elsewhere but to justify opening such a big stadium for one match and to boost attendances and create a 'spectacle' they've gone for the lazy option of a double header.

so notherncat
when Dublin footballers are playing their all Ireland finals in Croke Park
the opposing team should object to playing there and insist on a neutral venue
is that what you are saying or if Dublin hurlers got to the all Ireland final the opposing team should insist on a neutral venue
get a grip man!!

To be fair the dubs are dead right to object here.

Quite simply the game is meant to be at a neutral venue, thurles is not. I'm pretty sure had Kilkenny or Waterford drawn to play tip they would be saying the same thing.

And to be quite honest the excuse for it is borderline pathetic "to promote the game of hurling" so to promote the game of hurling they decide to play the games in the same places they are always played, yeah that makes sense! Surely promoting the game would be better served playing more matches in grounds that don't usually host big games between neutral counties?

A novel idea would be to play dublin and Kilkenny in portlaoise whilst you could play the Kilkenny Waterford game down in wexford for a change.

Good I hope you never get to do jury duty with thinking like that , very small mind and ignorant to boot , Dublin has a core of hurling fans that have very little to do with the footballers they are been punished they are as loyal as any hurling fans out there , the are Dublin football fans that probably won't even know there is s game on , and you ye poor sod thinking this is getting back at them .just to add to your ignorance you are aware croke park is not dublins home ground it's actuall Parnell park
