Cork - Pat Gilroy or James Horan

(Oldest Posts First)

Could a Pat Gilroy or a James Horan do a job with them? Or are Cork just simply on the same scrap heap as Meath and Armagh these days?

Bring back Conor Counihan

Cork don't need an outside coach. Cork got hammered by Kerry and lost to Fermanagh in 2004 when Billy Morgan first took over. He built that Cork side up to a team that went on to compete in All Ireland Finals in 2007, 2009 and 2010, the latter 2 under Counihan. There are plenty of coaches in Cork e.g. Steven O'Brien, Billy Morgan, John Cleary. It's up to the county board to put a team together like the three mentioned who get players playing for the manager

John Cleary would be good. He was favorite last time. In fact the Echo ran an article pretty much stating he was coach. Then at the 11th hour he wasn't. What happened? Lots of rumors and if true we can pretty much rule him out for foreseeable future. I don't know for sure what happened though.

Billy Morgan is a legend of course. Should we not just allow him to retire in peace. This mess is too big.

Stephen O'Brian. The jury is out on him. Not sure he is ready to be an intercounty manager.

Tom McGlinchey is doing OK in Waterford. He is a Cork man. Peter Creedon has done reasonably well. He has managed Tipp a few years back. He currently manages Laois. Both of these guys are managing a fourth tier team. Are they ready to step up? Right now, given results, it might not be such a big step but surely our ambitions must be higher than Waterford or Laois (no disrespect meant to either).

How many times did a James horan managed Mayo team lose to Galway, won Connacht titles, won in croke park, or make all Ireland semi finals? Seem to remember Mayo and Galway bombing straight out championship football in 2010, then horan took over mayo and we have made all Ireland semi finals each year since. He may be a man to point cork in the right direction.

Waterford weren't far off turning cork over so mcglinchy must be doing something right

James Horan is a very good coach. Don't let you dislike of Mayo blind you do that.

Hard to see Horaneabing his media work to go back into management. His job with Coca Cola wouldn't enable him to make he long track to Cork either.
