Dublin bullying of media...

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

"I can now reveal that this is not the first time the Dublin management team has tried to influence the narrative on the Sunday Game when one of their players was the subject of a discussion on the programme.

A member of the team management once texted a panellist on the programme warning that if an issue was dealt with in a certain way it would have an impact on the team's relationship with the programme. It was a definite 'shot across the bow'."

The above statement from Pat Spillanes' recent article in The Sunday World is a scandalous claim. If this is true, the GAA should investigate and punish anyone involved. Not only is it now plain to see that Jim Gavin can't control some of his players, but it is Spillanes' assertion some member/s of his management team are threatening pundits on television, who say anything that reflects poorly on the Dublin team.

If Gavin is looking for constitutional clarity, I'm pretty sure freedom of the press is one!

Fair play to Pat. I'll rush out now and buy the Sunday World. Maybe he'll do a series of GAA conspiracy theories.

Its more an apology, diluting piece or maybe a distancing piece then anything, i think he is going to have a very uncomfortable time in his summers work travelling up and down to Dublin and maybe this is his attempt to smooth the ground.

I would also like him to clarify his comments about the text of the Dublin management team? Which management team? Current or past? Context incident? Member of the management team?

I hope he keeps adding fuel to the fire to be honest, hes doing a great job, keep it up Patrick like a good fella.

Please dont bring posting to that level, its very sad.

I think its safe to say his welcome wont be a warm as it once has been and his popularity wont be high amongst the Dublin GAA community.

Pity that what's been a very entertaining championship to date is being almost over shadowed by this carry on.

Silly stuff

Pat doing a great job at firing up this Dublin panel. It seems now he is trying to stick the knife into Dolan, Brolly and Cahill while at the same time trying to dig up some contriversey on Dublin management. Keep up the good work Pat, I'd say the Dublin camp can't believe their luck with Pat's motivational material.

While I have taken issue with Spillane for past ablutions I think the way he has been hung out here is scandalous. He commented on the actions of a player who put his hands on an official. Whether intentional or not the rules are black and white and he merely quoted the relevant regulation.
One would have thought his Sunday Game colleagues would have backed the correct application of the rules instead if currying favour with Dublin who are starting to resemble a one party state and displaying the behaviour of an arrogant oligarch.

Couldn't agree more it's ridiculous stuff and you need look no further than your manager for it.

Totally agree. It's getting beyond the point of ridiculousness now. The conspiracy theories are running away with themselves. If we aren't careful they might actually talk about football!

Dublin are getting the money in the bank early this year. . .come semi final or final time when a big call goes their way (again), they'll throw this whole saga up and claim it all evens itself out.

The fact you have so many down votes is quite a sad showing of this forum. You literally gave the facts as they are and people still have to express disproval.

IF this is true the GAA need to investigate.
We all know dubs are a business, but never should profit for one county be at the expense of honest deliberations on a match, team or individual. And the national broadcaster or any broadcaster for that matter be threatened by any management team.

I'm no fan of Pat Spillane, but I fail to see how he is getting criticised so badly for his comments on Diarmuid Connolly. He merely stated that Connolly had broken the rules, and for other reasons Brolly criticised him for it. Also, Dessie Dolan seems to agree with whoever is on the show with him, and Des Cahill doesn't control any debate properly. I dont agree with Spillane much, but on this issue, he is 100% correct.

Absolute rubbish...there is a Sunday game influence the prime example is 2011 all ireland final and sheehan rugby tackle on mcauley when running through on goal nothing said were was the outrage then fast forward 2 years to cavanagh on mcmanus the exact same but the reaction was different only difference was one was from Kerry and one was Tyrone.

And what would an investigation uncover? Ridiculous grassy knoll comments.
