Galway vs Roscommon

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Looking forward to this one, going to be a great outing in Salthill, I think Galway should be winning this one easily enough as Rosscommon are currently struggling with injuries and people leaving the panel. So going for a convincing Galway win here, hoping for a great match though.
Galway 4+

Only 6 days to go, Roscommon has named a strong team.

Surprisingly low key build up to this game. I think it has the makings of a great game of football and is set up for a Roscommon ambush. They seem to be written off and it's widely expected to be a formality for Galway after their win against Mayo. Just might be a case of Galway not being as good as people think and Roscommon not being as bad. Normally there is a hype machine attached to Roscommon teams but their fans are very quiet at the moment. They have a very talented bunch of players who have under performed in championship for the last number of years. Some of those players will definitely be feeling like they are coming into the peak of their careers and it's now time to deliver on massive potential. They've competed in Division 1 for 2 years and while this year was disappointing I think they were more competitive in a lot of the games than they were given credit for. So unlike other years previous they may just be peaking for the summer and coming in under the radar. Odds of 5/2 on a win for them is good value IMO.

5/2 is crazy for the rossies. They took a hiding last year. They were on the slide after peaking in February to stay in stay in division 1. Much lower key build up which suits them much better. Their forwards will trouble Galway. The big question is whether they get enough possesion as Roscommon midfield an area of weakness. I think Galway will shade it by about 3 pts

Agree. I'm travelling in hope rather than confidence. Many many Ros fans confidence has being drained after poor championship showings in recent years. Hoping to be in the game going down the stretch.

Very quiet build up to this game, there will be more talk about the traffic problems in Salthill than the game itself, hopefully a dry day and a good game to enjoy, saw enough drab matches on TV so far this year

I've heard a few pundits say the same, there could be an ambush to nobody is writing Roscommon off. I haven't seen anyone write them off anywhere.

Go on the Roscommon board and there's a few bullish comments.

Nobody really rates Galway after what happened against Tipp last year, in the long run that could be the best thing to happen this Galway panel.

Somebody mentioned the quiet build-up and little wonder: no one in Galway is taking this game for granted. With Roscommon only leaving Div 1 and us only leaving Div 2, that puts us more or less in the same ballpark. The only people who will be shocked if Roscommon win, will be the people who know little about either team and are basing their expectations fully on the basis of Galway beating Mayo.

In fairness there hasn't been a whole lot of talk about this game but the bits I've seen would definitely not indicate that nobody really rates Galway. The rankings on here and other publications has them pretty high up and I think it was general consensus on the forum here that they were top 6 material. Roscommon on the other hand have copped a bit of criticism this year on their league form and whatever reports I've seen would lean towards a team on the slide. I suppose the reason I posted what I did was I was genuinely surprised at the 5/2 odds on offer so it doesn't look like the bookies agree with you.

The joys of a successful dual county. All concentration on our hurlers until today, now on to the footballers. Roscommon will be a tough but to crack. I'm expecting a close game but hopeful our big players Comer, Brannigan, Walsh will see us home.

This is championship, 50/50 game, both teams trying to avoid the dreaded 6 day turnover. Law of averages favours Roscommon. Hope it is dry, last years final was similar to the 1998 Final in Tuam, wet, miserable and Galway scraping the draw. Galway have enough to shade it but I would take another draw. Gaillimh Abu.

We'd be still well ahead of Cavan bud but as for Galway and the way they dismantled us in the replay last year well ..as I previously said we would travel in hope more than confidence. As for bullish comments about a Ros victory. .they are few and far between because we have downed tools on so many big days now many have us have stopped counting. That said the Rossies will travel in large numbers (bit like Mayo fans) to Salthill and here's hoping that it will be close unlike the Munster final at the weekend. The two teams are capable of good football and hopefully we are the best aspects on Sunday.

Roscommon haven't beaten Galway in the Connacht senior football championship since 2001, some 16 years ago. It's no wonder Galway are strong favourites for Sunday's match.

Rossies had a great league last year and the odds were the other way round when we played them. Yet we won.

98 we win in replay after et, 01 they beat us but we got them in qualifiers and that was with a class team!

Don't think this Galway team will be over confident. If we lose it won't be because we took them for granted.

Hopefully Rossies are as bad as league form!

Galway need to up their performance 80% for this game, if we play like we did the last day the Rossies will beat us..

Id very much doubt ye will need that much improvement. Galway are form favourites and Roscommon will simply need for everything to go right for them to take this one. Hopefully it will be a right good game . Maybe wishful to think it may be like the hum dingers from 1998 when it was classic stuff. The championship needs a right good provincial decider.

Should be a good game all right but I feel the Mayo game we didn't perform at all and still won.. Roscommon will punish us as they have some deadly forwards.. They will also want to get us back for last year's Conn final.. Top 2 in Conn meet again...

I think you're mixing up the six day turnaround with the six day hangover. Both things to be avoided.

You could see Roscommon getting a bit of a pasting in this one i think.
If Galway are on form they could run out easy winners.
Hard to know where Roscommon are at the minute.
