Louth v Longford

(Oldest Posts First)

It's a Leinster derby between Louth and Longford in Drogheda this weekend with the winners through to the next round of the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers. Can the Wee County bounce back from a nine-point loss to Meath or will Denis Connerton's charges end their season on Saturday?

This thread will be used to discuss the game at the Gaelic Grounds.

Not too optimistic but we have a good record in the Qualifiers...

This is the first time that Louth and Longford have met in the qualifiers. Louth's over all championship record against the midlanders is played 14, won 9, drew 1 and lost 4. The last time wee played them in the championship was in 2010 in Portlaoise and Louth won by 4 points. Longford have some notable wins in the qualifiers down through the years. This includes knocking out Derry three times, Down and Monaghan twice, Mayo and Cavan.

Louth simple were not at the races yesterday. Congrats to Longford on their well deserved win yesterday. It is amazing for a team who have not reached the Leinster semi-final in thirty years that their record in the qualifiers is very good. They could get Meath, Mayo, Clare or the losers of Donegal/Tyrone.

What a joke! We had Down and Monaghan away last year, Clare and Kildare the previous year, Derry and Tipp away the previous year... The whole idea of the qualifiers is to give so called weaker teams a chance and while we did win a lot of the games outlined above, surely we should at least have the option of playing someone at home?

It is a joke. Dublin leave CP only once a year at most.

I agree with these sentiments, a negative seeding system is the only way of opening up the championship

Dublin have been to Newbridge, Enniscorthy, Drogheda, Clones, Tralee, Ballybofey, Cavan and Portlaoise since January and a lot of fans like myself and clondalkindub have been to every single one without fail .. I would love to be playing Westmeath in Tullamore or Mullingar or basically anywhere but Croker on Sunday. It's what the Dublin fans want and I'm sure the players as well. Don't use that as a brush to beat us with, it's not our fault, We don't want to play in Croker in the early chanpionship. Our consistent games there in league and chanpionship since 2010 in front of poor enough crowds up until the business end of the championship has actually taken a special part of my childhood away and now I don't long for the walk to croker anymore because it's so common now it's lost its magic. I remember even going back to the last 2000s being excited about going to croker from the Monday before a Sunday game and the days used to drag. I'd have butterflies of excitement and the walk down the clonliff road into the hill was immense in every aspect, the highlight of my entire year used to be walking in and the biggest most crushing walk was walking out at the end of a year knowing it'd nearly be a calendar year from being there again, but now it's just a normal thing and the away games are far more enjoyable. But we just go where we are told.. always have always will. I'm sure the players who play for dublin now and who enjoyea similar experiences as myself in cp growing up while still loving croker, probably take it for granted themselves a bit and wish they could feel like they are earning the right to play there .. it's bollocks but there ya are

The Kildare game was a home game but the stand in Pearse Park is off limits so it was played in Mullingar instead.
