The games involving Fermanagh v Armagh and losers of Offaly/Westmeath v Cavan/Monaghan both set for Sunday June 25th at 6.30pm,cant remember county games being set so late of a sunday before, any reason for this?? macca999 (Fermanagh) - Posts: 1098 - 06/06/2017 16:56:40 1995777 Link 0 |
You'd probably have to go back all the way to last year for that. The same Sunday aswell if memory serves me. Dublin v Meath was at 6.30 or thereabouts on a Sunday evening. Jinxie (Meath) - Posts: 6342 - 06/06/2017 17:18:35 1995787 Link 0 |
Hopefully Louth progress, they have decent players but came up against a green machine of attack on Sunday. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 06/06/2017 17:25:53 1995792 Link 0 |
Are Fermanagh away to Armagh? if it was in Brewster they'd have a lot better chance. if Armagh get beat again could that be the end for Mc Geeney? Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 2747 - 06/06/2017 17:34:10 1995799 Link 0 |

Thank God a thread not about Dermot Connolly , Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 06/06/2017 17:51:11 1995815 Link 0 |
Back in 2003 Louth played Cavan on a Sunday in the quailifers in Navan where the throw in was 7.00 pm.

Cheers Royaldunne. Longford are a tough team to beat in the quailifers and have some notable scalps down through the years. They knocked out Down and Monaghan last year. Still happy with the draw and especially a home draw.

Best answer I can come up with is for the National League and Provincial championship to be played in parallel. I'd ditch the qualifiers. Play a good league competition in the height of the Summer. That'd be much more beneficial for everyone really. You could have the AI series only between the Provincial champions plus the league winner if they've not already qualified. Yes the Dublin Meath game last year was moved due to the Ireland France match in Euro 2016,which made sense, however im unaware of any other sporting occasion on June 25th that requires a late throw in. There isnt any other Ulster fixtures even that day. For example if Monaghan face Offaly,6.30pm on a Sunday will definitely stop some people from travelling. macca999 (Fermanagh) - Posts: 1098 - 06/06/2017 18:54:55 1995875 Link 0 |
No it's not. Connolly should have been sent off the other night. When the game was 0-9 to 0-6, a 14 man Dublin v a 15 man Carlow at that stage might have made it a lot closer. We played very defensively, but what else is a team from the bottom of Div 4 meant to do v the All Ireland Champions? It worked well until we lost a man on 50 mins. Obviously we won't play the same v London. We scored lots during the league and 2-17 v Wexford in 1st round. The Real 1944 (Carlow) - Posts: 1114 - 06/06/2017 22:11:23 1996080 Link 0 |
If I was Louth Ollie id play it in navan, just a thought. I think Louth play better in navan.

That will be a long trip back for Monaghan from Tullamore of a Sunday night and work the next day.

what's the problem. It's a flippin knockout competition , or at least it's supposed to be with every county involved. Of course the best teams will progress and the weak teams will struggle. Are you suggesting that it should be the other way around. The league is a proper competition. I don't know why we in the GAA put so much emphasis on this stupid out-dated All-Ireland Nonsence. Now it would be fine if it was a complete open-draw every year and treated as a cup competition but they way it stands with these ridiculous unfair and un-equal provincial competitions feeding in to the all-Ireland series it's an absolute joke. The qualifiers at least give teams at least 2 games in what the teams niaively perceive to be the most important competition of the year. It's time the emphasis switched to the league perhaps have just 2 divisions and each county getting 15 games a year. Have an open-draw straight knockout competition running alongside it .

Royaldunne Louth do not have a great record in Navan in the qualifiers. They have played 5 matches there in the qualifiers. They have won 1, drawn 1 and lost 3. Win Ratio is 20%. Their only win coming against Offaly in Navan in 2001. Compare that to Drogheda. They have played 7 matches in the qualifiers. They have won 5 and lost 2. Win Ratio is 71%. Louth's biggest win in the qualifiers also happened in Drogheda two years ago against Leitrim.
