Would the best of Leinster beat Dublin? The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 2087 - 25/05/2017 21:17:49 1990827 Link 0 |
A bit like trying to put a Lions team together in my opinion. They'd lack cohesion. Also Dublin would be way ahead in terms of strength and conditioning than even the best players pulled from the rest of Leinster. Give them one year training together and playing division 1 class football and you'd hope they'd give Dublin a game. Just my opinion. Add in Heslin, John O'Loughlin, Niall mcnamee and niall kelly and the forwards are there. Couldn't name too many defenders to cope with dublin attack though. Maybe Meaths six backs and goalie.

I think it's pretty arrogant to suggest other teams in Leinster couldn't give Dublin a game. I'm expecting tough games in Leinster this year, Kildare, Meath, Westmeath. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4441 - 25/05/2017 21:53:37 1990836 Link 2 |
Cahir Healy of Laois always held Bernard Brogan when Bernard was in his prime. A serious defender. He's hurling with Laois now. Keoghan of Meath would be another dead cert. Stephen Attride Laois is a talented wing back. pace and can take a score. You'd imagine all the 10 counties bar Dublin would supply at least one top quality back. Maybe they should try 5 teams in the Railway Cup :) Dublin, Rest of Leinster, Ulster, Connacht :) Laois76 (Laois) - Posts: 1270 - 25/05/2017 21:58:29 1990839 Link 5 |
Ollie lyons always did well against brogan as well. Eoin Doyle would be good at cb too. Haven't seen Louth play recently but they would surely contribute a couple of players. Seanue Furlong of wicklow.

The best in Leinster will face them, they are called Meath, would the pick of ulster compete with dubs?? Since not one county from province made it to last 4 last year with exception of Brendan murphy , the other counties can keep the rest. We are very happy with what we have thanks for offer though.

Well said, also the likes of Longford who cant win a game in Leinster can beat Monaghan,Derry, Donegal over THIS decade. Ulster has a complex of themselves that the facts dont back up

It is very hard to pick the best of Leinster team even tougher when you have at least one player from the remaining ten counties. So here is my 15. A few players unlucky to make my team but you can't fit everyone. OLLIE (Louth) - Posts: 12224 - 25/05/2017 23:11:24 1990864 Link 0 |
It remains to be seen about Meath RD. I genuinely hope you're right. I think you may be a bit nostalgic though. I can't see Meath any further down the road than Kildare, Louth. Westmeath have 2 Leinster finals under their belt. Laois76 (Laois) - Posts: 1270 - 25/05/2017 23:35:07 1990871 Link 3 |

The players are their most of them from previous year, some new but all playing to potential, that's what a good manager does, that is main area we have been lacking since the departure of Eamonn Obrien, not anymore, thankfully

The issue is that, if Dublin pick their best 21 for this game, and make the rest available for selection, then half the "best of the rest" panel would also be Dubs. Jaden (Dublin) - Posts: 139 - 26/05/2017 10:04:14 1990914 Link 2 |
Agree we are well funded , we also have something else going that money doesn't buy talent , a county board that operates as it should , unlike certain counties not to far from the pale.

Ziggy that would of been one third of the team from Kildare as already I have two other players from the lillies on my team. I said I wanted to include a player from at least one of the ten other counties. Not an easy thing. What would be your team?

Well lets look at ourselves and the stats since the Qualifiers were introduced (given we would be the lowest ranked Ulster County in that period). In the All-Ireland series in this time we have played a total of 41 games. 20 of these games were within the Ulster Championship 21 in the Qualifiers Ulster Championship = we have lost 16/20 games Qualifiers = we have lost 14/21 games In the Qualifiers we have played but never beaten an Ulster side (4 times). Of the 7 games we didn't lose in the Qualifiers 4 times the opposition were from Leinster. Ergo if Antrim were in Leinster it is more than likely we would have at least one Leinster title and probably an All Ireland in there too..... ;-) Offside_Rule (Antrim) - Posts: 4058 - 26/05/2017 11:35:55 1990943 Link 2 |
