Galway vs Mayo

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Going to be a great match in a few weeks time. But Mayo have not got a great forward selection unlike Galway who probably have the best forwards in the country. But Galway have not got a great defensive system but they are improving, Mayo will be needing to put on a great performance in defense with the forwards Galway have. In midfield I have a feeling Galway will dominate. I'm going for a Galway win as in my opinion they are a much better team and that they are playing at home. Galway to win Connaght

Mayo's team should be
D.Clarke
G.Cafferky
B.Harrison
K.Higgins
C.Boyle
L.Keenan
S.O'Shea
T.Parsons
F.Boland
A.O'Shea
C.O'Shea
A.Moran
D.O'Connor
C.O'Connor
They should use five subs out of the six subs who are
C.Loftus
J.Dothery
P.Durcan
D.Vaughan
K.McLoughlin (if not injured afters today's hit)

Galways team should be
R.Lavelle
C.Sweeny
D.Kyne
D.Walsh
C.McDaid
G.O'Donnell
G.Sice
P.Conroy
F.O'Cuarrian
S.Walsh
M.Daly
E.Brannigan
I.Burke
D.Comer
D.Cummins
Sice hasn't been used in defense in a while where he does play at best in opinion and he could still attack.
All six subs should be used, who are
L.Slike or B.McHugh
J.Heany
M.Meehan
S.Armstrong or
G.Bradshaw
M.Lundy or M.Farragher

Will be a great game, with a Galway win as they're the better team as I had said previously.

Oakleafer - we get it. You love Galway.

You. Just have missed Paddy Durkans performance today if you think he should be a sub the next day.

I think we'll win by a point or two, possibly in a replay and we'll start with 15 players!

Wonder who we'll get in the qualifiers. Will the GAA allow us to go straight to the backdoor and save a wasted journey to Salthill ?

Mayo didn't show a lot in attack today but the physicality in their tackling all over the field is still there.

I think Galway have a great chance but they will need to concede no goal and cope with the power Mayo bring.

Make no mistake Mayo have been on a different level to Galway for a long time and while we caught them last year it would be a big statement to do it again. No matter how average Mayo looked today they still won reasonable easy. We will have it all to do to beat them.

Yew tree. id pay no heed to him, I honestly think he is trying to stir it up a lot of the time. He is a great man for starting up new posts all over the place. On the game in 3 weeks i still make Mayo favs but Galway have improved an awful lot in 12 months and have serious options all over the pitch. I especially hope to see Mike Meehan back on the pitch and in there full forward on Cafferkey. Meehan is shooting the lights out for his club lately. If Mayo have their heads right and improve 60 % on today they should still win. anything less and Galway will win.

The oppturnity is there for Galway for sure. Look I honestly think it's a 50/50 game which is what Mayo v Galway games usually are.

IF Mayo put in a performance they are capable of then I would be confident of us winning. Anything less coupled with a good Galway performance and we are goosed.

Galway have excellent forwards but what is key for me is the defensive plan Galway are building. They are now doing or building towards what the top teams do.

From what I hear the preparation in Galway with Kevin Walsh is also top notch which may have been lacking a little previously.

Agree the preparation and detail is second to none. They had a week in Portugal on a train ing camp and the facilities etc at Loughgeorge are top class. I was lucky to be present at a full possible v probable game at Loughgeorge recently reffed by a top official and the physicality was unbelievable. The really encouraging aspect was the highscoring by what I believe are out top 8 forwards ( Meehan didn't play). But Mayo in champ is a different story. Should be a cracker

This should be a real battle with two top teams going at it hammer and tongs.
I see both this year in the latter stages whatever the outcome with who ever looses taking a big scalp.
The championships about to get under way. Mayo by a point for me.

Arse and elbow come to mind. These games are 50/50 no matter who's in the assendency. I take it Derry are better than Tyrone?

Your big statement should be win in croke park and make the semis not nessarily beating Mayo in Connacht. I thought ye would beat tipp last year. I'd give ye a good chance of winning against Mayo that would be more on Mayo not being up for it and right now not seeming to have a good gameplan yet. I'm sure Galway will be reading to go for this. If he win Connacht ye need to do the business in the quarter final.

Mayo will probably squeeze galway , over power them and eek out a 2-3 point victory.

Trying to remember when the last great Mayo Galway game was They are usually games of attrition with a lot of heavy hitting More often than not football comes second taking lumps comes first

I suppose my point is beating a top tier team 2 years running is a statement (not because it is Mayo but because Mayo are a top team). But yes I agree with you. Beating 2 top tier teams in the same championship would probably mean an All Ire semi final and would be a real statement. Would show we can do it consistently not just on the odd day.

Maybe I am just trying to hold back my tide of optimism!!
