With the first Championship having passed off without much fanfare it's time for the next installment with the kick off of the Christy Ring this weekend.
Saturday:
Down v Roscommon
Carlow v Antrim
Mayo v Kildare
Sunday:
Wicklow v London
With the double elimination format it means a slip up can be afforded so what way do people see it panning out? Ourselves away to Carlow is a tough opening match giving one of us the longer route - Carlow will be gunning for revenge from 3 weeks ago and home advantage has them as slight favourites but if we can be on form and not be wasteful then I have to go for ourselves. In the other games it is hard to look past Down and Kildare on Sat and Wicklow with home advantage on Sun might just squeeze past though London won't give it to them.

Down and Kildare to win. I'd just about fancy Antrim and Wicklow to win, but you couldn't rule out a draw in either game. Great competition. It will be tight.

Down v Roscommon: both teams are at a low ebb with the League results being disappointing. Also Down losing out to Armagh in the Ulster Championship can't have raised their expectations of a long summer in the Christy Ring: - Roscommon by 5/6 points.
Carlow v Antrim: The in form player this year for Antrim is out with a leg injury 'Mathew Donnelly' and although Antrim have moved up a gear since they last played Carlow in the league final, Carlow will also have moved up a gear. This match I see as being very close or the flood gates opening and Carlow running away with it. If a close game then the ref could very well decide this one. Having placed great faith in him as a neutral referee over the years he total blew that when refereeing the Schools 'B' final in 2016 when St Louis (Antrim) played the Tipp Town school, my opinion that day was that he handed the match to the Munster lads. On that basis I go for a home win for Carlow by 3/4 points.
Mayo v Kildare: Kildare have shown great improvement this year and with the KK and Limerick players on board its a hard task for Mayo to come away from this match with anything other than a hiding. Mayo who will probably not have Higgins to call upon is another reason for nothing other than a Kildare win. - Kildare by 9/10 points.

London will have benefited from playing in the higher division albeit that they didn't put a glove on any of the teams bar Armagh. They may however put Wicklow to the sword and Wicklow's hammering against Meath in the league final will have dented their confidence: London by 6/7 points, I would love to be proved wrong here.

Brian_Coyote Down did beat Roscommon well in the league. I fancy them to do likewise today. Home advantage too. I guess we'll know in a few hours.

Yeah went for the 3 winners and knew ourselves and Carlow was going to be a tough close game- thankfully we came out the right side of the contest as never an easy game down there.

Fantastic result for Antrim again, we've certainly had the measure of Carlow this year after a disappointing couple of years. The games are always close though, we're both right about the same level. I expect to meet Carlow again in the final. Very important for Antrim to get back to the Liam McCarthy with Div 1B hurling confirmed for next spring.

We have a few more than 5 in the Wicklow Hurling Championship but some very weak teams in there too. Bray are going for 4 in a row. Glenealy won 4 in a row before that. Carnew gone more football. Kiltegan back in senior but not a force. Eire Og in Greystones is a growth area for hurling, not a traditional setting for the game. St Patrick's in Wicklow are back in senior a few years now. Avondale are middling. That's 7 teams. Trouble is Glenealy or Bray's second teams would probably take Kiltegan and would give St Pats and Avondale a good game.

Then mount leinster rangers play st mullins in the final !" Haha! yeah MLR and St Mullins have fairly dominated the last few years, hard to see anyone else coming out on top in Carlow at the moment.
Always a shame to see teams withdraw from championships, especially from senior level, what forced Naomh Brid out? Will they be allowed regroup in intermediate or be forced down to junior?
Hard luck yet again against Antrim aswell, you never know though, maybe ye'll meet them again this year and 3rd time lucky!
