Gooch on Tyrone

Replying To WanPintWin:  "Yes, but it's also a professional sport. Testimonials are commonplace in professional sport. They are not in the GAA, and this is in fact the first, from which the player will receive money.
The main point from my side, is that it's not in keeping with the ethos of the GAA."
Like I said, is paying mangers secretly in the ethos?

Is players being paid to write books, appear on TV/Radio adds or being given money for photo shots to promote GAA events?

If the above is acceptable why is this testimonial not?

Now now Kingdomboy we can't go there. Don't you know the red thumb brigade will be out in force and the sycophants will shout us down like the children's schoolyard this forum is.

Yeah, And the best part is we managed to get a Kerry man to instigate the whole thing.
We'll happily let you keep thinking you lot are the cute hoors.

I've no problem with what the Gooch is doing more power to him on both the dinner circuit and the book. I'll even give it a read I think.

My view on this is simple, no one is forcing anybody to buy a ticket/table.
Good luck to him, I'm sure he cares what somebody above in Cavan thinks of him.
He's an idol and a hero with his own people go on the Gooch.

Good man Gooch, get all you can in this world, thank God for the Gooch, Berard Brogan, Lee Keegan and their likes, and also for the naughty boys, Ricey, Connolly, McMahon etc. These boys are winners and these lads are what make our sport tick, without them things would be very bland indeed.
Any man that can make on this after the work they put in over the years gets my vote.
Football needs the Kerry/Tyrone, Kerry/Dublin even Dublin/Tyrone and lets not forget Mayo/Kerry/Dublin triangle. We need a mix of great football and physical warfare to keep the blood boiling, May it last forever.

What players do after is no concern of ours.

I was getting a bit annoyed with the old Gooch making money from his testimonial, book etc. Then I heard Kieran Donaghy and Ronan O'Gara making a great point on Wooly's show. How many bums did Colm Cooper's name on the teamsheet put on seats in a stadium or watching him on live TV? People in awe of his skills dying to watch him play. How much money did the GAA take in on the strength of his games. How much more money could TV companies charge for Hooch games. How many choppers, pubs, taxis etc near them grounds benefited? How much did the government take in on taxes from above? He got nothing for playing. He's entitled to get something back. Even if it seems against the amateur GAA ethos. He was magic.

I doubt the Tyrone players of the noughties really care much about how Gooch sells his book. Ricey probably laughing his ass off at the slight about his marking ability. Tyrone were an unstoppable force of nature back then and will have a lofty place in GAA history despite some puke labels thrown their way

With your childish attacks on Breffni and your carry on after you were beaten by Mayo a while back, I don't think you can making any dispersions about anyone to he fair.

How anyone can give a thumbs down to quality like that I don't know.
Probably the same kind of person that gets annoyed by things like the pedestrianization of Norwich City Centre

Replying To IrishGael3:  "I just wish the Gooch would just stop crying and move on. I am sick of listening to him whinging about what big bad Tyrone did to him - I recall the day in late September in 1986 when a very nice Tyrone team lined up against the mighty Kerry who cynically took out 2 of Tyrones best players. You also had another very nice Tyrone team in the 90's who went down to Croker to play Meath who got all sorts of abuse both physical and verbal - but that's fine as most great teams will do what it takes to win. That Tyrone team in the noughties were not going to let that happen - they had skilful players and they had their fair share of eejits. Perhaps if Gooch wants to cry he can aim it at his own county for creating the monster he had to face in Ricey. Finally I've played football in Ireland at a pretty high standard both north and south and in the US and this so called sledging goes on everywhere and has done for a long time and if Gooch never experienced it before he met Ricey then he must have been wearing his ear muffs!"
So bu your thinking he should bring out an auto biography and not touch on one of the biggest rivalries of its time
Or blow smoke up your ars7 and avoid anything remotely controversial
But having taken the time to read your post I'm convinced you DIDNT TAKE THE TIME to read the actual Gooch extract how could when you describe the Gooch as crying , he was complimentary of a team he admitted he didn't like.

By the way as a Dub no axe to grind but did take the time to read the Godman post before posting
