Replying To suckvalleypaddy:  "Disturbing posts from ISIS apologists on here. ISIS do not care if Tyrone are part of NATO and Kerry are not. ISIS are disgusting savages who want to kill the vast majority of the human race and that includes all the posters here and the GAA. USA and UK governments, present and past, are not the issue here and to make excuses for ISIS is unacceptable."
What are you on about man??????
Nobody on here condones what Isis do so you need to read again.
The point myself and plenty are making is your being brainwashed too into believing its ok for the Americans and UK to commit violence and attacks simply because they are classed as a government army.
violence is violence no matter what and neither can be condoned, they too have illegitimate reasoning behind doing what they do.
The UK have been doing it for years making out their the victims all the time and never taking the blame, sure they were here invading ireland and attacking your own people for hundreds of years and yet when ireland rose against them they painted our rebels as terrorists even back then to the rest of the world, people who knew nothing about the plight of Ireland automatically believed them.

Are you conflating anti-American with pro-Russian? It is possible to be critical of both, you know. Equally, NeoConLand is another deluded fantasy island project.

Also, ISIS kill and injure more Muslims than anybody, so saying that they are only doing what the USA and UK are doing is crazy. Search all bags. ISIS are the enemy of mankind.

Oh I am well aware and as my Vietnam vet cousin often says "we went to war on a lie" - Gulf of Tonkin incident. That said I much rather the US is world police than some backward country like Russia or China.

Anyway in typical HS fashion this thread has gone of its axis.

Replying To MedwayIrish:  "Sounds more like a cynical, economic decision to me lads. There's very little risk in Ireland, likewise most countries that haven't actively or tacitly supported "the international community" (PC new spiel for The Great Powers if we're honest) in the Middle East and North Africa. You don't see many attacks in Denmark or Romania either, do you?

I saw Stone Roses at Wembley stadium last Saturday. Probably 90,000 people and plenty had bags with them, including myself (had to pick up tour t shirts for friends without tickets). In fact, they only checked/noticed 2 of the rucksack's 3 compartments.

It's like the fluid ban going through to departures at airports. That's another economic decision. Oh, no it's too dangerous to have over 100ml liquid in a single container.............until you get through to departures and, remind me of the limit on the amount of liquid you can buy there and bring it onto the plane with no further checks.....that's right, as Two Unlimited used to say "No limits"!"
The liquids you get after the screening are in shops on the airside. They're not going to have any explosives in them so that's why there's no limit.

That's essentially it man.

They want you to spend more on the concessions in Croker which are being run by ISIS.

I'm pretty confident that that's the gist of the complaints.

Fair enough admin, I can understand that. All I'd say is thanks to everyone who took part in the debate because irrespective of whether I agree with what certain posters are saying, I'd rather talk to people with something to say than those with very little to say. I'll leave it at that and hope this message gets through. Cheers

It's all about safety and no one can argue against it, I have no problem stewards checking me for anything, it means they are doing their job and trying to make the area safer but the GAA may also want to ban books at games, at a game few years ago in Croke Park there was a husband, wife and 2 kids sitting in front of me, the husband was watching the game intensely, the 2 kids spent the entire game standing up blocking people and slapping each other and the mammy was reading a book

Well it was only a matter of time really, the norm for games in Lansdowne Road and events in the Point so hardly surprising is it?

A lot of damage can be caused]outsidecroke park particularly as the crowds are exiting the venue along narrow streets.

For example there is a very narrow laneway shortcut outside croke where an individual/group could do as much damage as they like after a game.
It is a laneway that avoids all stewards checkpoints as it goes through a housing estate.
Which renders the searches a waste of time.

I can understand the searches in airports because there is the potential of a bomb on a plane.

Whereas outside croke park there is a potential to cause as much damage if not greater by anyone insane enough/determined enough to try it.

Which makes the searches seem pointless.

It is only the GAA covering themselves from a legalistic and optical standpoint.

I remember after one all-ireland final there was a young junkie (small scrawny little fella) out of his mind going around randomly stabbing people, OUTSIDE the grounds of Croke park

Thankfully he only inflicted a superficial wound on one Dublin supporter from what I saw.

He ran away and I don't know what happened after that.

I seem to remember as he ran up Philipsburgh Avenue the gardai were informed by that stage.

That was only a minor incident as it turned out, but the sense of panic in the air was real.

What would a more focused and strategic person who planned such an attack be able to do?

It is impossible to continually stop determined madmen.

I don't have a problem with stewards conducting security checks either Riverboys but once they find I've only got water and a jumper in my rucksack and not semtex I'd appreciate being able to take my bag inside!

Replying To PoolSturgeon:  "Only question I have about it is that sometimes I accompany a wheelchair user to matches in Croke Park. He needs to have a bag on the back of the wheelchair to carry some essential personal things. Its just a small back pack but I hope that it won't be banned under the new regulation. I'm presuming it won't -- they're welcome to search it if they want!"
This is from the crokepark.ie website FAQ on matchday

Q: Can I still bring a medical bag with me into Croke Park?

Please notify security at the gates in advance of being searched that you are carrying such items as bags may be searched on entry to the match. Further assistance from one of our team of special needs stewards may also be requested if needed. Please allow plenty of time to get into the stadium, and for match entry procedures, ticket checks and searches, we would advise arriving at the stadium at least 1 hour before throw-in.

No doubt a cookery or knitting book or some such unimportant stuff. They should ban Mammy's too !
