Southern Dandy, Viva La Quinta Brigada is an amazing song. I am proud to say that one of most prominent men in the "No Pasaran" movement, Charlie Donnelly, lived not that far away from me. I grew up listening to Christy Moore, Plantxy etc. My father and older brothers would always have had their music on and I never fully appreciated it. But this past few years i've actually listened to the words of their songs and begun to appreciate their talents. Especially Christy Moore, VLQB basically challenged the Catholic Church on its stance towards the blueshirts at a time when the Church still held a massive grip on Ireland.

The flower duet from Lakme. Try that. Amazing stuff.
Or Maria Callas duet from the marriage of Figaro. Cant remember who she sings with.
It's off the Shawshank Redemption.
Any-one else into this?

Yeah H-D. Just after you-tubing some of his stuff there now. We are not great at eveything but some of us could hold a tune. Its the simple everyday things that cheer you up. I'm sick listening to talk about the recession. Two fingers up to the recession. There will always be Ireland. There will always be the GAA. And we will survive. Get up once more than you're knocked down. UP the Paddies.

Try these Irish classics:
Weatherman- Juniper
Oxygen - JJ72
Green and Red of Mayo - Sawdoctors
A song for Ireland - Luke Kelly
Heads - The Stunning
Planet Fabulous - Something Happens
Donegal Express - Shane McGowan and the Popes.
If I should fall from grace with god- The Pogues
Sunday, Bloody Sunday - U2
Alphabet Soup - Bellx1

We dont always need a fiddle or a depressing tune to belt out a classic, mind you some of the tunes mentioned in previous posts i do like.

Just a few more to add:

The Waterboys: This is the Sea (reminds me of finishing college and hitting the road)..."That was the river, this is the sea!"
Ronan Ryan: "The pipers dispair" / "The fox on the prowl". Great tunes courtesy of the Comhaltas. D flute.
Bell X1: The Great Defector
Damien Dempsey: Patience....."I take a few schlugs on the kisser!"
Ralph McTell: Streets of London
Frankie Miller: Caledonia
Tin Whistle: Lad here does a great job of 'The Bucks of Oranmore' on Overton D whistle. Mighty!
