Davy should be dealt with after yesterday.Passion for the game is no excuse, he should not go on the pitch end of story.
That said the Tipp players should have stayed away from him.
The refereeing was very poor too but that dosn't excuse a manager running onto the field shouting the odds.

Davy should never have went on to pitch we all know that, but when he did two tipp players came for him, will they be reprimanded ?-- ,

A one or two match ban is enough in my opinion. Mainly to show that it is unacceptable to run onto the pitch.

In life and in a match one error sometimes leads to another error, or series of errors - so who do we blame ?, the first, second or third. I think we all know that Davy should not come on to the pitch and we all know that there was a very obvious free out. Nobody got injured though.

At least 2 match ban

He ran onto to the pitch and made contact with an opposition player in an aggressive manner

Unacceptable, and a completely bone head move.

2 match ban

Replying To MURPHB33:  "It is funny this is the first thread of the year on the main thread about Davy Fitzgerald himself..

Sometimes we as a nation tend to focus in on the negative rather than the positive.

Yes, what he did was wrong yesterday and didn't look great...

But No one gave Wexford a chance of getting promoted from 1b and they did it beating Limerick and Galway.. and then on top of that they beat Kilkenny in Nowlan Park.. and for the first 55 minutes they put it up to Tipperary despite conceding two very bad goals (One bad defending and one bad refereeing).. Tipp showed their class in the final 15 minutes and showed why they are currently the best in the business and would also show the Wexford boys the level they need to reach...

The progress Davy has made with Wexford is remarkable and he is deserves massive credit.. Hurling and in more particular leinster badly needs a strong Wexford... Their support is always loud and comes in number so lets Hope Davy can keep working his magic..."
there is no one bashing davy here...and there have been plenty of posts , from most of the posters on this thread, congratulating wexford in their progress this year...this is a thread regarding davy, but could have been any inter county coach, going onto the field of play....never mind tipp players at him, never mind bad refereeing...the point is he shouldnt have been involved...but this is certainly not a "have a go at davy thread"

Davy was a little silly going on the pitch and especially getting involved with players or confronting them I mean that is asking for trouble. He is not the only one at it - a certain tall selector for Waterford with a baseball cap and water bottle does more running on the pitch than his two midfielders combined and never a peep out out of anyone. Both are wrong but as soon as you confront a player all bets are off really, you either get a red card and suspension or a belt of hurl, a red card and a suspension no matter what its not very clever.

Replying To wexico15:  "Not condoning his behaviour he did overstep the mark 100% but 2 things on this
1. Before he got involved with Jason Forde,Forde pushed him away with his hurl. A player striking an non playing official in any way is poor to say the least
2. Although it didn't have a major impact on the final result this all came on the back of Kirwan's decision not to award a free out prior to tipp's 2nd goal, baffling didn't do it justice as it was such a blatant free out. For what it's worth it taught he gave questionable calls against both teams today"
So happy to see other counties try and defend his antics. The truth however, is that it is indefensible.

Your mitigating circumstances are not worth anything. Forde was right as Davy should not be on the pitch. At least it is elsewhere he is doing this now. The next step for Davy is to create a seige mentality. People will slowly then forget about Wexford the underdog and will think of Wexford negitively.

True it is great TV but you cannot in any way shape or form defend his actions yesterday.

If James Ryan of Limerick did not get a ban for striking Davy in 2012 league (on the sideline too) then nothing will happen Forde

Rules are in place in sport to avoid a "free for all" - The referee and linesmen have a responsibility to implement them. That's their purpose.

When things get out of control like they did last Sunday - you need to look at the root cause if you want to avoid it happening again. In a game where the rules can be very gray - the foul in the lead up to the 2nd Tipp goal was very obvious - as clear as you'll see. I dont understand why officials at this level would get that call so wrong!

Was Davy wrong? Of course he was. But, the responsibility in my eyes lies elsewhere!

I didn't say Dan had squared up to anyone - just he likes going on the pitch which is probably ill-advised that is all.

A number of posters are defending Davy because (1) He's passionate (2) He's Davy and sure he's great crack (3) It was clearly a shocker of a decision from the ref not to award a free out. (4) Davy was only trying to lift his lads. ( 5) Sure it was great TV we love a pantomime villain .
Wrong!
Supposing a Tipp player reacted and Davy was knocked off his feet? What happens next? Wexford players pile in to defend their manager, more Tipp players pile in and we have a mass brawl on the field that may possibly even spread to the stands.Wouldn't that be great 'crack' altogether?
Don't think so.

Pantomime villain or not, what happened on Sunday was a terrible example of what is wrong in GAA in terms of attitude to the referee. The decision was wrong, indeed. Tipp got a goal, indeed. But Davy Fitz should not be out on the field roaring at the referee.
I found the behaviour humiliating, and the reaction "oh he's passionate" does not float. I am 50000% more passionate about Wexford hurling than he ever will be, should I have ran out at the ref also?
If there is one culture which needs to change in GAA, it is this "call the ref what you want" attitude. We will never get better ones until we respect them.
