He is a fair ref who makes mistakes like any ref. Wait for the outrage from both sets of supporters highlighting various incidents from various games over the last few years. Painful stuff.

Already seen 30+ tweets referring to him as 'Dublin Joe'. Pathetic.

Best of them but they all make mistakes not on purpose or to favour anyone but by human nature the big fav will get the 50 50 decisions in most cases

He will give an honest and unbiased performance.

Will he make mistakes? Almost certainly. Gaelic Football, at this level, is almost impossible to referee perfectly for 75 or so minutes.

I would like him to let the game flow more than he tends to. Far too fussy with the notebook.

I've seen a Dublin poster crying about it as well. Though most of his posts are a joke.

Gough or coldrick two best in country. (At least Meath produces something best in football) lol.
That been said best wishes to Joe. Would have liked gough to get it this year as he will be ineligible next due to the royal been in the final. :).

Waste of time giving out about a ref prior to a game. Hopefully he had a good game and neither team is left aggrieved with a decision after the game

He had his good name severely questioned in the media by James Horan back in 2012 and was shamefully targeed for years on social media since 2011

He's had some very questionable performances since all off the back of all that negative attention

All every GAA person wants is a final where the ref has his best game and uses his linesmen and umpires to help him have his best game, for far too long people have being complaining about refs or incidents where he got things right or wrong, now I'm not little Joe's biggest fan, far from it but the decision has been made and he has got the job, now he has to get on with the game and ignore managers, players, former players, supporters and media pundits and the crap they come out with in the days leading into a big game. If a team is good enough then they should win regardless of what the ref does or doesn't do unless he makes a horrible decision and sends off half the team

Is it true that he has refereed internal games at Dublin training sessions? That would be the only problem I would see with him in charge of true. If it is true, Mayo should demand he come down to Castlebar before the final and referee on of their A vs B games in training.

I heard that as well. I don't think this type of thing should be allowed. It brings a ref too close to a county setup not to mention conflict of interest in helping a team prepare for real matches. What's wrong with using a local club ref if need be or just use a feckin selector to blow the whistle like most teams do. Its all a bit too cosy this type of thing.

Since the All Ireland final of 2011 there have been serious questions about the Cavan man's impartiality when it comes to Dublin.

He lived an worked in Dublin didn't he . That's a bit of an issue I think.

Sure lots of people do nowdays but how would Dublin feel if the AI ref had lived and worked in Mayo.
