(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I can't wait for this next weekend (18th).

It has the makings of a great game. I wiill definitely head up to Clones for this.

The winner of this wins Ulster in my opinion.

You could be right about that, it really wouldn't shock me if it was a draw. I would be shocked if the game isn't in the balance going into the last 10 minutes. It's difficult to know how the young Donegal players will perform but if they can keep up the level of performance shown so far, we have a decent chance.

Not sure the winner of this will win Ulster as Monaghan are looking very strong.

Think it will be epic, But will end on the day I think. Cant see a draw, one will pull away. Hope Donegal do in the end.

As for Monaghan, Don't get the hype personally. No disrespect to them, I just think that Donegal or Tyrone will beat them. But we will see.

An intriguing fixture for sure. There never is much between the teams and I think we can expect to see a similar cagey affair Sunday week.
By the grace of God, Murphy is fit after his injury scare and I'd be hoping Neil McGee is making good progress as well. I was glad also to hear that Mattie Donnelly will be available. You want both teams at full capacity, going at it hammer and tongs!

The match-ups will be crucial. Last year Ryan McHugh ran amok in the first half but he was definitely curtailed in the second. We can probably expect to see McMahon shadowing Murphy, McNamee on McBrearty and I'd say Ciaran Thompson can expect close attention too given his ability to beat the blanket defence with accurate long range shooting.

It's a cliche but it really will be all on the day. Tyrone won it last year thanks to a few wonder scores at the end. Will they be able to conjure the same magic again if needed? I think Donegal need to get ahead early but crucially this time, try to step on Tyrone's throat when they are on top. I'm hoping it goes that way anyway! Donegal by 3 or 4 points for me.

Justy McMahon's gig all day long.

Woe betide any suitors throwing doe eyes at Murph, Justy is the jealous sort & playing Donegal in the championship is his own personal Lisdoonvarna.

If either team are slightly off and the other is in good form, I would expect it to be fairly one sided. This might happen.

If I were forced to call this result, I would call it in our favor just because I am from donegal and no other reason. I am not going to pretend that we are in transition, in poor form, up against it add infinitum. I think that it is important to be sporting before and after these events, therefore I am going to avoid being a cute hoor. No-one likes it.

It's going to be close, it will be tough on the young fellas we have to play in their first real high intensity senior championship match against an outfit as good and crafty as Tyrone are, I think that's where the winning and losing of the game will be,
I'm going for Donegal by a narrow margin more in hope than anything, though I think a good run through the qualifiers with lots of match time would help the young lads too.

We can win it but I'm not sure we will. In the second half of the last league game v Mayo we seen Mayo bring championship intensity and physicality in the tackle. Our young lads looked undeveloped in the second half of that game and we lost. Tyrone are now a seasoned physical team with an eye on a second Ulster Title in a row so we are going to be really up against it.
The game could hinge on a number of things but imo the following will dictate the result.
Is this young Donegal team ready for the Tyrone pressure in a big championship game in Clones?
Will the conditions suit the running and hand passing game Donegal employ?
Will the ref allow Justin Mc Mahon try be overly physical with Michael Murphy all game?
Will the Tyrone forwards have their shooting boots on?

Looking forward to the game. The pressure is all on Tyrone as at the start of the season all of Donegal knew we would be in transition so to win this one would be a massive bonus.

I'm sure Tyrone will give Murphy a hard time. Will be interesting to see if he can keep the head. Not sure what conditions you are referring to for the hand passing game?? Form would suggest that both teams will sit back and invite the other on. The team with deadliest long range shooters may win it. I seem to remember that's how Tyrone came out on top last year.

its going to be a hell of a quick run down from the hills and the rallying to watch tyrone or just stay in Donegal watch the end of the rally then head to the hotel and watch the game on bbc2. Have to back Donegal for this one by 4-5pts as I can't see tyrone finding a reliable score getter or 2 in the next week. Terrible for a tyrone fan but I believe Donegal have better score getters and a couple of lads who can shoot from distance. Lets hope the weathers better than when we got washed outta ballybofey. Just hope it's agood game of football and we are commenting on it rather than any shenanigans from the players. Heres hoping

Donegal are motoring really well this year. This game will be a huge test however of how far the young lads especially have come to date, in reality. There will be a big onus on the more experienced players to perform and surge the rest of the lads on in terms of belief.

Tyrone having won Ulster last year will surely be looking at an All-Ireland tilt this summer and will view this game as a big test, but also as a stepping-stone along the way to that goal.

In terms of player ability and capacity to score, I believe we are better equipped. As regards experience, championship know-how and defensive structure, Tyrone are ahead for me. If I was a betting man, and I am, I would back Tyrone as I think their experience and intensity might be a bit much for our less experienced but talented group.

Wise up man - Justin McMahan is no dirty player but does play tough and fair football against all opponents - he just doesn't do it against Murphy. Also Murphy is no shrinking violet - he has a very cyclical side on top of his undoubted skill but if he can't handle McMahon then he needs to be subbed. Crazy comment to be fair!!!

Coldrick needs to be strong on Sunday. Surely he's aware of what McMahon has gotten up to in the past where Murphy is concerned. He needs to lay down the law early. A bit like Aiden O'Shea, refs just seem to think because they're big men they should be able to withstand any kind of assault.

Come on. Does Sean Cavanagh get targeted by McGee and the rest?

Of course he does, but at least McGee & the rest will pay some attention to what's going on in the game.

Justy's stalking of Murphy is equal parts comical/creepy!!

McMahon's marking of Murphy in 2015 was not about football in any way whatsoever.

His treatment of Murphy this past few years has been embarrassing alright, staring into this face continuously throughout 70 plus minutes at every opportunity is a bit rare to say the least.. But whatever works for you I guess. Just cringeworthy.

You didn't answer my question. Does Cavanagh get the same kind of treatment? Take the Donegal tainted glasses off lads.
