This weekend seen Louth and Westmeath being postponed and due to the GAA'S insistence on congesting fixtures, has turned division 3 into a mess. The likelihood now being that if results go to plan next weekend, Louth will be forced to fullfill a fixture that means nothing to them and the game will take place on the weekend that the division 3 final should be played on -removing the chance of probably Westmeath and Down getting to play the final in croke Park. How do the GAA manage to never learn from their mistakes. It isn't asking too much to leave a gap between the end of the league until the finals so that any outstanding matches can be run off. Schedule is too tight as has been shown in the last two years. I know people were saying play it yesterday or today but players and management have work and family commitments etc so it's never as easy as that. As a result will the division 4 final go ahead on its own on March 30th now? Hope it's not moved somewhere else as we're waiting for years to get to play in croke park.

Just push Div 4 final out if required so both finals can be played in Croker. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 18/03/2019 17:51:20 2173467 Link 0 |
They are incapable of sorting out fixtures, their greed saw them create more games with the introduction of the Super 8's & this year an U 20 competition. Allowing pre season competitions such as FBD & Mc Kenna cup continue, as well as league & the Super 8's means their is too many games & no room for manoeuvring. Drastic changes are needed but can you see anybody at the top capable of leadership to implement change ? When you consider all the fiascos they oversaw last year, I wouldn't hold much hope. Another point is just like the club players, Div 3 is way down the list of priorities of those at the top, if it doesn't involve money or glory, they won't take any action. Uimhir.a.3. In fairness there wasn't one pitch available in Louth this weekend that the game could be played on. Sort out your grounds as they some of worst in country.

People are coming home from other countries and have places booked for weekend of the 30th be hard to change those plans now would the division 2 final be put back to Saturday and play the football and hurling division 1 finals Sunday?

According to the GAA Hour they're trying to refix it for midweek.

I agree on the county grounds issue, as it is shambolic. However, it doesn't change the fact that the GAA are trying to fit games in a tight window with little room for situations such as this. All they had to do was leave a gap between the end of the league and the finals for any outstanding games to be run off, instead they are upsetting the whole division and by extension both Leitrim and Derry.

Again this is farcical. So both teams will have a few days to prepare for the game and there is also the reality of other commitments for both set of players. The GAA makes a mistake with the fixtures and yet punishes Louth and Westmeath.

Additional open dates could be built into the same timeframe if the league schedule was reduced - how about 6-team NFL divisions, just like the NHL ? omahant (USA) - Posts: 2584 - 18/03/2019 22:39:16 2173545 Link 0 |
Agreed. No consideration for players, coaches or supporters. Wasn't that long since there was a tight space between league final and preliminary round of Ulster football. I think the plan now is to leave club finals free for club games. Croke Park is surely idle for April? Could they not push out the Division 1-4 dates for Croke Park if required? That's where players want to play. Club games still go ahead in 24 counties and possibly reschedule club games in the counties involved. I know that's prioritising county over clubs for that day but it's hard to please everyone.

Surely if their wasnt a pitch available in Louth, then the likes of Navan or Inniskean even Parnell Park or Abbotstown should come into consideration. This would then ensure that the games get played on time. It is then up to the County Boards to ensure that they have facilities that are able to stand up to the conditions that they may be faced with. juicy (Meath) - Posts: 399 - 19/03/2019 11:05:18 2173637 Link 0 |
Easy fix , if it's a Kerry v Mayo or Galway league final then the GAA should play it in limerick and leave the division 2 and 4 final in crokepark on the Sunday , it could work for everyone cos if it's Kerry v Galway there won't 20,000 head to Dublin but we could fill the Gaelic grounds. Makes sense

Fill the Gaelic grounds? A Galway v Kerry final wouldn't attract 50,000...no combination would. I'd say the GAA are hoping Mayo make the final which will be played in Croke Park.

So do we think that Div 3 and 4 finals could be moved due to maybe an extra week/match being needed for Louth or Westmeath? Grey_Wolf (Leitrim) - Posts: 235 - 20/03/2019 17:09:04 2174004 Link 0 |
You'd get more Kerry Galway fans to go to limerick than to crokepark yew, Kerry v Mayo would the Gaelic grounds, Galway v Mayo could be played in the Hyde or thurles.
