Division 2 2017

Seen galway today, they are superfit for this time of year and seem to have got a better mix with there blanket been set up when defending and attacking at pace on the counter.
Would expect them to walk through division 2

Meath with 9 different players named in panel than start of last year, could be interesting

Less than 10 hours until it's all started. Big trip to newry tonight, hoping for a 2 points on the board.

Replying To RoyalBadger:  "Cork may of regressed but they are still better than a lot of the muck in Div 2 (Fermanagh, Kildare, Meath, Derry)."
Fermanagh are not muck. I would say very consistent and competitive under Pete McGrath. While our 15 wides to their 4 was key in the drawn league last year between us and the Erne men I was still very impressed with their application. Cork may very well go up but a lot of commentary on them is based on their player talent from 3/4 years ago. While Aidan Walsh is a huge boost in returning it will be interesting to see what type of panel they are developing.

Replying To Donegalman:  "Little or nothing in this competition. I believe that Meath are going to do really well this year. Division 2 is well within their reach. Galway possibly will be the team that could stop them. I think Cork simply aren't good enough despite the fact that they have dropped down a division. They are good enough to get promoted, but a lot will depend on their away form."
I believe you are right that Cork are not good enough to compete with Dublin, Kerry or Mayo at the moment. However I would say that about all of the teams left in the 1st division are not good enough as you put it, with the possible exception of a dangerous Tyrone team. I would fancy Corks chances against anybody else other than Dublin on any given day, just as they would fancy their chances against Cork.

Cork are not good enough to win All Irelands, but either are 29 other counties, the 4 I mentioned being the exception. I think Donegal will now probably suffer a similar fate to Cork. Had a decent team for a few seasons but now on the decline after achieving 1 All Ireland.

Back on topic, I think Cork will find division 2 tough as they seem to be blooding young players and there are some very good teams that are possibly further along the building cycle than Cork. I'm glad they are using the league for experimenting though, rather than struggling to stay in division 1.

I think you could be right. I know Cork are trying to bring some new blood in and results may suffer as a result, when it comes to league. However I would be happy if Healy has some sort of plan developing. However, I have my doubts.

Really good win indeed for Fermanagh. They also missed plenty. They could easily have scored more. That said Down had a few goal chances in the first half. In the second half, Down offered very little and Fermanagh centered to victory. Down look a like a team in free fall.

Watched the game down were very poor and must be favourites for relegation at this stage, great win for Fermanagh they seem to be improving every year Pete McGrath is some man

I'd see it more as doing what most people would have expected of them. Down's last win in league/championship was almost 2 years ago. In that time they've lost 13 straight games, with an average margin of defeat of 8 points. They are one of the worst teams in Ireland.

Must compliment Fermanagh; when you consider how limited their resources, they are huge over-achievers. The contrast tonight was stark; one team was well-organised + committed, the other didn't know what they were doing. Ironic, of course, that Pete McGrath wasn't considered good enought to manage Down

Great win by Fermanagh they are going to be tough opposition for anyone in this division, really interesting game now against Galway next weekend, Down look like a team in serious trouble though and will need something from their trip to Clare or they could be in serious trouble.

Very impressive by fermanagh , no reason why they should not end up a top team in months to come . Pete McGrath is a top class manager who deserves more recognition. Good luck and well done Fermanagh .

A very good win by Fermanagh, a county with limited resources and a top class manager. It is always difficult to win away. Louth and Monaghan have made it 3 in a row of away wins

Took a lot of flak in last couple of weeks but great win for the young lillies today. Will be a big home crowd against Cork after this performance.

Delighted with the result today
Showed real killer instinct and a good score to put up. We have to remember that its only Meath and they are probably the weakest team in division 2 by a long way but good to get off to a winning note.
