They should be raffled off between any interested clubs at this stage. As you said who realistically will buy them and no point leaving them lying unused in Pairc Taliteann

The county board released a statement about them after they were taken down. I must see if I can find it...

Word is clubs balking at county board decision to redo stand in navan. That is disastrous news. If Meath can't back themselves how how can anyone else. Brownepat (Meath) - Posts: 532 - 29/10/2017 08:54:55 2058906 Link 0 |
This is getting beyond a joke.

What? Where did this come from? The clubs all voted unanimously earlier in the year to proceed with the redevelopment, not one dissenting voice I believe. What is this cause of concern now? Seems like decision making in Meath is becoming a very difficult task

I'd imagine like all things in life it seems a great idea until you see the bill!
CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1639 - 29/10/2017 16:44:39 2058968 Link 8 |
Ah sure they knew the bill, the cost was €9 million, not just for the stand but other areas too, they all agreed on that spend so I don't know how anyone can baulk at it now

It could be the case that the clubs thought it was all fine until they saw the cost to them. €9 Milllion might look all well and good until you see (for example) your club needs to sell 1000 tickets for a raffle or pay the county board €5000 a year for the next few years. Then again we're speaking about one rumour online, we'll wait and see. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1639 - 29/10/2017 17:31:47 2058982 Link 7 |
Yes it is rumour and I certainly hope it's a false one, this job needs to be done and soon. I think the financials were all explained to the clubs as per previous reports here and in the Chronicle I just can't accept that if there is any truth to this that the clubs could claim they only realised now the cost implications

You're hardly accusing the clubs of going back on something they previously agreed to? That'd never happen ;) CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1639 - 29/10/2017 19:24:15 2058997 Link 8 |
Was just about to say that!

Ha true indeed, be interesting to keep an eye on the capitol spending plan due out in November, a little birdie informed me the county board were hopeful of funding towards the redevelopment, perhaps that might appease any concerns that may be floating about.

Putting the onus on the clubs in the form of a levy is a lazy way of doing it. How about something like a 10 year ticket or some sort of corporate fundraising. I'd imagine a lot of clubs struggle to get through the year and fundraise to keep themselves going without having to stump up to the county board as well. The likes of the fundraiser in the States needs repeating, spread the load look at naming rights etc. The work badly needs doing, but the approach needs to be novel too. stamullenman (Meath) - Posts: 392 - 30/10/2017 17:57:20 2059140 Link 0 |
There was a mock up of the proposed Pairc Tailteann in the county final program. It doesn't look like any GAA stadium. Proposed to be an All seater with the first part being a 4,000 seater stand. I don't know where the money will come for 4 stands though. It would be a great venue for 20's finals and stuff could replace Tullamore because of the all seater aspect. I can't find a photo of it online but if I was to describe it it's a bit like Ravenhill or Tallaght Stadium if the stand went the full way around LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1434 - 30/10/2017 21:52:06 2059180 Link 8 |
Cost is €10m for the first part of a stand on one side with 4,000 seats. New floodlights included in this. €16m to finish the stand bringing it up to 7,000 seats. Clubs will be asked to fundraise by selling raffle tickets for a Meath Draw with 3 draws per year. Details of this are not yet finialized. Naming rights, 10 year tickets, patron and donor schemes also being explored. Clubs agreed to proceed with the initial phase of redevelopment which was exploring costs and bringing to full PP. Clubs were all in agreement that redevelopment needs to happen but many were not happy with the initial proposals of how the clubs would contribute. Hang on so now the new stand (fully completed) is costing €16 million!!! The new stand in Mac Hale Park cost around that amount and it's a damn sight biggger than what's planned in Navan, time the county board opened up on this there are too many different stories, plans and costs being bandied about. We are all going to be contributing to this one way or another so time we got the full detailed picture

My figures are right and I think it does seem rather expensive but an independent QS company confirmed the figures as accurate. Commercial units included underneath the stand too - well subject to planning. Croke Park only allowing Meath CB commit to a €10m project at present. No idea how the county board will ever afford to do the other 3 sides. Hopefully some Government funding down the line will help but in the short term the project is a big task financially. I'm assuming the naming rights will have to be sold as part of fundraising? leftandwide (Meath) - Posts: 91 - 01/11/2017 14:01:48 2059522 Link 0 |
And what price would you put on the naming rights for a ground that hosts 3/4 Div 2/3 league matches and maybe just maybe 1 or 2 qualifier matches ??? Personally i don't see it being a significant amount

Didn't say it would bring a significant amount, just asked if its part of the plans. Likely to be as we've seen it happen in Carlow,Wexford,Westmeath in recent times.
