Waterford senior footballers

(Oldest Posts First)

Whats gone wrong with the footballers, unfortunately we seem to be going backwards.
Is it time to bring back John Kiely? he was successful when he was manager. Last year when he was with the junior team they got to a Munster final. His record was good with the footballers.Last year was poor but this year is a disaster, poor league and no championship win. We lost to Carlow ( best of luck to Carlow )We are now rated at the bottom. Where do we go from here ?.

our Football is dreadful. From a distance it looks like we do not have a plan or the confidence to build patiently.
Forget John Kiely, he did so much..now let him rest.We need to feed in to our system some top-class ex-players who
can develop talent over a 5-year period or so.I am sure- once proper funding is arranged- that many ex-players from
Kerry ,Cork or even Northern counties would relish the challenge of lifting us up from the dumps by teaching us the
essentials of Football and so build a platform for long-term development.
Now I know Hurling is Waterford´s no.1 sport and as such deserves priority treatment. However, many athletes have more
ability in one sport and those who prefer Football should receive the best in Coaching our County can offer.Lets get
serious (as Tipp. have of late with serious pay-back)about Football and stop whinging year for year or we´ll end up
soon like the kilkenny Football team.
County Board :over to you.

A good morale boosting win for Waterford footballers in the McGrath Cup. According to the Examiner, it is the first win at senior level against us since 1957 (ye won in 2003 in the under 21). I doubt you will get carried away with it, but if you are starting at a low ebb, then it is a very positive result. I hope you go on and win the tournament now.

serious insult to the sub keeper that the manager knew the first choice keeper would not be available for championship but still played him throughout the league.

Waterfords main focus is probably the league and not the championship. Also maybe the manager was hoping Enright would change his mind after the league.
Good luck to the Waterford Footballers
