I have cousins from the resort town you mention and would know the area of Leitrim mentioned throughout the book. Mad stuff altogether what was going on in that pub!

Strange thing about The Wire is that it did not do well for HBO ratings wise. Critics called it "the best show that nobody ever seen". You might want to watch The Shield if you like that flavor of programming.

It's good, but in my opinion The Wire was better. All 5 series are absolutely superb. Currently binge watching Treme. It's written by the sane guy who wrote the Wire and it's set in New Orleans 3 months after Hurricane Katrina. It's excellent. Also would recommend Ozark, Narcos, El Chapo and Narcos Mexico and for some comedy Veep. MartinEgan (UK) - Posts: 80 - 06/04/2020 22:05:02 2275460 Link 2 |
It is the greatest series ever. Absolutely brilliant writing...the series was dark but funny. The acting from every single character was superb.

Ray Donovan is excellent and up there with the best of them also. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 07/04/2020 08:35:24 2275470 Link 2 |
Always Sunny in Philadelphia is good craic too. It is complete nonsense and they really push the boundaries in terms of maybe going too far at times but all in the name of pointing a stick at America and its quirks. After another day of gloomy corona virus news something like Always Sunny lightens the mood! Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9128 - 07/04/2020 08:38:20 2275471 Link 2 |
My young lad is watching the American version of the office and he reckons its very good but I just can't seem to get into it myself. I remember watching the Chicago version of shameless years ago which is quite rough but very funny as well, my friends reckon the Liverpool version of it is better though but I haven't seen that 1. Seen some of that too, it's like an incredibly crude version of Friends, some of the episodes are absolutely hilarious but yeah you'd wonder how they get away with the offensive content. Danny Devito is absolutely gold in it. I'm still working away but im off Friday - Monday at the weekend might dig in to a few episodes thanks for the reminder, had forgotten about this show GeniusGerry (Kerry) - Posts: 2105 - 07/04/2020 10:54:29 2275475 Link 6 |
Each to his own - but, imho, you're missing nothing in Shameless.

The inbetweeners is fantastic, yes it's crude yes it probably goes to far, and while made in the 2000s it would never get made these days, due to total sexism and homophobia. That been said it is just so resembling of my youth and the way guys are at that age , apparently it was based loosely on the writers lives in the 80s. Which been that age at that time I totally relate to. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 07/04/2020 11:54:09 2275482 Link 2 |
Just started Arrested Development. Finished Ozark season 3. Amazing. The latest Better Call Saul episode was brilliant too. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2119 - 07/04/2020 12:44:23 2275485 Link 0 |
Wouldnt agree on inbetweeners not being made now for those reasons. It's relatively harmless and clearly shows up for how wrong those opinions are within the show I always think back to when I was living in limerick with lad from donegal. I had the box set of the series and the lad from donegal had never watched the show and him falling all over our apartment watching show for first time. Havent seen some of the actors in it in too much since but Joe Thomas has been excellent in few things especially taskmaster KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3504 - 07/04/2020 14:17:22 2275492 Link 2 |
Yeah apparently Danny Devito was only meant to appear in a cameo but he had such a great time he asked to be kept on. Some of the antics are hilarious! "I'm lit" "Ready to Plow"

The episode where Danny Devito literally bursts out of a couch naked is something I thought I'd never see!

You mentioning taskmaster reminds of this programme on Netflix called the ultimate beast master where different types of athletes represent their countries and take on an obstacle course which is called the beast. It's interesting and it's a bit of sport in these times when there is none so could keep ye entertained for a while. It would be great if RTÉ could show all the games from the 86 world Cup in Mexico, they could put the games on in full late at night not to be upsetting the women folk. Yeah or even just random classic World Cup and Euro games. I saw highlights of the Czech Republic and Holland from Euro 2004 there a few days ago. An absolute belter of a match which the Czechs won 3-2.

Ahh man there are just so many split your sides laughing moments in it . The skipping school episode along with caravan park are just so so funny. And of course the school fashion show. Who ever thought that puking over the head of the girl you fancy lil brother could ever be so good. :) royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 07/04/2020 16:40:24 2275498 Link 1 |
Red the first two. Both a great read.

Yeah, Kurz announced that yesterday. You have to wear a mask to the supermarket here and on public transport from next week. The smaller shops (less than 400m squared) open from next week, restaurants, bars etc. possibly by start of May. All contingent on people taking precautions, of course. Austria has had less than 250 deaths since this thing started, which isn't bad given that we share a border with Italy. Forgot to add The Keepers on Netflix to the previous list, riveting stuff.
