The Corona Virus And Possible Effects To GAA Matches

The League will be Null and Void great news for Meath and Mayo especially. A great chance for a 32 County All Ireland Knockout Championship about July or August. Open draw with Division 3 or 4 teams having home advantage otherwise first out at home, with Semi and Final in Croke Park. Real Championship football with full houses everywhere.

I'd imagine if the matches got started again it would just be a knock out type of Championship as many have suggested as it could be over with the fastest and be more meaningful than league matches.

Was thinking the league could be finished maybe late autumn similar to old days when it would start at that time. It could be done with in a 3 to 4 weeks.

Championship looks unlikely at this stage, but again maybe knockout starting late June or July may be possible to get done.

Anyway it's all secondary now. Things seem to be getting bad, but have to be proud of the way the association have being doing their part.

I'd be happy if it happened as you described but player availability might be tough as in lots of people will be behind in bills, etc if people are laid off from their jobs or small businesses.

True. The doors might not be closed in three or six months time but there might not be a lot of folk with the money to come through them.

Exactly. It'll be interesting to see how many Pubs that were maybe already on the brink of closing actually close now. I bring that up due to the fact that a lot of GAA Fundraising is done in Pubs.

I am so happy that the forum has opened again, great to have a distraction. We are now seeing other sports cancelling competitions in June/July so it s looking very bad for the GAA fixtures calendar. The best we could hope for is the good old-fashioned knock out competitions for both club and county.

Please everybody stay safe.

I agree with you. I don't think we'll see anything this year but a knock out of any fashion would be better than nothing at all.

The wife is amazed at all the jobs I'm finally getting too around the house, inside and out, sport can take its fair share of time alright. No sport until April 19 and then some.

You'd be shocked at how much time is spent watching sports or the pub or both. It really adds up! Good for you though for getting stuff done around the house.

You could have been first winners of the Tailteann cup and it's been taken from you.

Kildare always has nice footballers but Dublin are too far ahead of anyone else in Leinster. The battle in Leinster is for second place I'd say.

yeh we need to beef up our ways theres no shortage of footballers but the next level doesnt happen by itself, you have to want it and then believe it

Well you basically have had the same problem as everyone else and that was that Dublin were so good the last 10 years or so. Kildare could give anyone a decent match over the years but that wasn't good enough against Dublin as Mayo, Kerry, Tyrone, etc can attest to. All you can do is keep trying like everyone else. I have decent hopes for Galway if the season ever gets started. We have to beat this damn Virus first though.
