And I am not trying to annoy anyone here. I was discussing the merits of his inclusion in the squad then the GOAT was brought into it!

Now to be fair DC and Keegan have had some great battles, very tight and physical affairs. Keegan done a better job than anyone else ive seen put on Dc to do that same job. I would say they each have one over on eachother but at the end of the day even when Keegan won his battle he effectively lost his battle. Same can not be said for DC

I don't think there is grounds to argue that he should be in the squad but as far as GOAT goes I would agree, he isn't the GOAT but one of the players of the decade.

Mighty Colm Cooper takes the GOAT for me

We'll fair enough then. You probably basing it on those terms would see Kilkenny as a great either. Enough said.

GOAT, that was the term used. That literally means the greatest of all time. That is what the people said. End of story.

I'd stand by what I said really, same way young lurch beasted Jonny the last day, Dermo beasted Leeroy, lost him for a goal scoring change, pulled him down, Lee sees the line, Dermo wind and scores the penalty. That's a pretty significant contribution to a final. His appearance in the second half in 17, won the game for Dublin, he changed the momentum of the game, with Killkenny in Keegan jail, Dermo strolled around Croke park dictating play, I'll always remember his big grin when he drew the foul for Rocks winner. In fact it's hard to think of a player who has had more of an influence in finals over the last 10 years, maybe Cluxton. Certainly had the Indian sign of Mayo anyone.

GOAT is a big shout I'd agree, but certainly one of the best Mavericks, we are famous for in Dublin.

Christ the whole thing I took exception to was the GOAT. And your memory of the Keegan battle is quite something. But not getting into that. And to say he has possibly being the biggest influence in finals? Sorry no chance.

A sub argument being his performance in finals, which is false.

If you can pick a part that's not true in what I said of those games, go ahead, we won both those years with Dermo contributing significantly as illustrated, Mayo would have an All Ireland but for Dermo Connolly in my honest opinion. Keegan was a fine player mind.

Controversial call on Dermo, but a debate point on influence admittedly, Cluxton, Jamesey, maybe Cian since 2011 to now certainly for consistency in appearance, Dermo there to, depends on your taste really, like I say Demo is a maverick and I know many Dubs who don't like that.

Actually just thinking back he has had a massive, glittering career, what a player, this thread has really helped me appreciate him. Just thinking back to 2011 and how long ago it's been and he's still giving, ive kind of convinced myself of wanting him to start now.

Thanks Flaker.

I remember watching the game almost in disbelief at just how good he is, One of the few 10/10 performances i have ever seen, also i get that there is always dates and arguments over great players and not everyone can be everyone's cup of tea but when you have a man the calibre of DC just please don't argue.. just admire.

To adapt an old rhyme we used to have about Galway and The Rossies when championship was upon us :

Eggs and rashers for the Mayo slashers.

Hay and oats for the Dublin GOATs.
