How can David Moran get a all star? Brutal in both All Ireland finals

Morely and Small in the backs. You must be joking. Neither ever will be all star material.

What basis do you say this on? They've both had very solid years and could both arguably get one this year never mind in the future... 2 young lads, both great players, both definitely have all star potential if they don't get one this year

First of all, neither player is particularly young. Morely 25 and Small 26. Morely was taken to the cleaners in the replay and by 18 year old Shane Walsh in Navan. He's neither fast enough or big enough. Small is a tough marker that players on the edge at best. Was lucky to get his place for the replay and is the most limited defender on the ball that Dublin have.

You obviously have very little football knowledge. Morley has been excellent this year doing great man marking jobs on Cillian O'Connor, Paddy McBrearty, Mattie Donnelly and Paul Mannion and he has more than held his own each time. He wasn't marking Shane Walsh up in Navan, Jason Foley was. He is in my opinion one of the top backs in the country.

John Small is a certain starter for Dublin. He is fantastic at blotting out the opposition's best half forward as he did to both Stephen O'Brien and to a lesser degree Sean O'Shea. A team that has 6 backs who only want to attack will not win anything. You can clearly only appreciate attacking wing backs who cause damage at the other end.

I would say 25 and 26 is quite young would you not? On average a player peaks at 28-30, so both have a fair few years, I think Morley has had a great year for Kerry particularly based on the level of club football he has been playing prior to making an AI final. Small on the other hand had 2 good finals, kept O'Brien quite as you like both days out... something no other man could do this year on one occasion never mind 2.
And What do you mean he was lucky to start again.. says you? Or did Jim tell you that himself, otherwise how have you come to the conclusion that he was lucky to start? Very silly thing to say as it's blatantly not true and you have no valid reason to make a call like that, so it is nonsense

I suppose he means that in his opinion John Small was lucky to start the replay.Small was sent off in his previous 2 All -Ireland Finals. He was yellow carded in the first half of the draw against Kerry and was subbed in the second half. After the Cooper dismissal and Small's yellow card in the draw,I remember thinking that John Small was at risk of being sent off and Dublin surely would not have survived being 2 players down.In fairness to Small,he had a good game in the replay and he seemed to be more conscious of his discipline and I don't think he was carded.

Small did not mark O'Brien for the replay. He was on Sean O'Shea. In footballing terms, wouldn't consider 26 young. Only a few county men play well into their 30's nowadays. Surely a guy that had made his championship debut 5 years ago has hit his peak. I think it was a toss up between not starting MacAauley, Cooper or Small. Murchan showed huge improvement when going on for Small the first day. Small spent most of his time fouling O'Brien and blazed a ball well wide when going forward. Morely conceded 6 pts from play across both finals and was extremely poor against Meath in Navan. Granted he played every game but this is the all stars we are talking about. We are looking for the outstanding performers across the year.

Paul Mannion got 4 POINTS FROM PLAY off Morely in replay. Looks like a decent trier at best but lacks pace and size to be a good full back. If Kerry had a couple of decent backs, they would be AI champions but unfortunately they don't. Whats wrong with defending well and being good in possession as I'm sure you should know as a good football man having seen the O' Se's, Moynahan etc. over the years. Small is not at that level full stop.

Huge congratulations to Connor McGill, Bryan menton , and donal keoghan. Great achievement by all 3. Who were hugely influential in Meaths successful year. I feel that we will still get the one all star and that will be donal. Still very nice to see 3 nominees. Well done.

Congrats on the nominees RD - fully deserved.

Cant see Donal getting one but only matter of time before he does, so I wouldn't be too despondent if he fails to land one this year.

Neither Roscommon or Meath will probably get an All star but its hard understand how Meath got three nominations and Roscommon two given both teams Championship seasons. Donegal getting 6 is also very strange

Meath
Scraped past Div 3 Offaly
Hammered Div 3 Carlow
Hammered Div 3 Laois
Hammered by Dublin scoring a mighty 4 points
Scraped past Div 2 Clare
Lost to Donegal by 9
Lost to Mayo by 9
Lost to Kerry by 8

Roscommon
Hammered D4 Leitrim
Beat D1 Mayo Away
Beat D1 Galway Away Connaght Champions
Lost to Tyrone by 4
Hammered by Dublin
Beat Cork Away

I could see numbers 8-15 being packed with all Kerry/Dublin players which could leave room for 1 or 2 outsiders in the back 6. If so I think he is the first pick outside of the finalists but then again maybe i'm wrong

Last time I checked, the All Stars awards are based on individual performances and not on team performance. I'm not sure about McGill but Keoghan and Menton are worthy of their place in the nominations. Menton was the highest scoring midfielder in the championship and Keoghan was exceptional from what I saw against Clare, Donegal and Mayo. Conor Cox would have been on the All Star team if it was picked in June but he won't get one and neither will the Meath lads so not to worry.

Donegal getting 6 is not strange, promoted as champions Div 2, Ulster champions for second year in a row lost 1 game in the championship only Dublin had a better record in the championship this year.
All that being said only Murphy deserves an all star .
