Replying To slayer:  "Showcase or not, it is punitive for families. Take a family of two adults and two kids - 360 euro to attend the final and the solution is 'don't go if you don't want to'? The same families who may have gone to 4 games in Munster, quarter final, semi final, National League etc. Based on what you said below you are viewing this completely from the point of view of single people who are going out drinking. Perhaps it is an age thing, but I'm looking at it from the point of view of families and what you're really saying to them is 'if you haven't got the money stay at home'.

If that is the message then lets hope parents who have GAA mad kids are all in well paying jobs.

As many have stated the All Irl finals are our showcase and should be considered different to all the other games we have during the year. People have no problem in paying out for concerts and a 'nite out' in Temple Bar etc and going further to the nightclub after..."
A simple tip il give you... instead of spending €360, it will only cost you €270 if you leave the wife in Quinns and let her watch it on the telly there."
jaysis you'd be a braver man than me to say that to the wife......

Nothing wrong with the prices for all Ireland final tickets ,it's all Ireland final after all if Galway were in it I'd pay whatever it was to be there

All-Ireland finals are the two primier sporting days in the Irish calendar bar none"
Who expects it for "free"??

Exactly, it's a straw man argument GAA company men put up any time fans complain about the price of anything - "shur do ye want ta go in for free?!"

Eh, no, but I don't want to be mugged either.

The match programme going from 5 to 7 pissed people off even more I think - blatant profiteering. The GAA see fans as walking ATM machines and try and squeeze as much dosh as possible out of us.

Moreover, if you're from Donegal or Tyrone, where do you park now that Clonliffe is being sold? Unlike the rest of you, we don't have trains, not even bad trains! Croke Park is a great pitch but a dull stadium. No atmosphere unless it's full. It's too big and the seats are too far from the pitch. When, as a fan, you want to give advice to the ref, he can't even hear you.

This would be a problem if the vast majority of funds don't go back to the counties and clubs. I know one county gets too much but at the end of the day it is still grass routes. It's not like it's funding a 40% wage increase for the top brass.

That was the biggest issue for me too.....I had to do a double take when they asked for 7 euro for a programme......granted the funds go back into clubs etc on from gate receipts but we do need to strike the correct balance admission prices

Is that why they're turning up late to their own games? ;)

I bought a season ticket for the hurling this year. When it came to the first knock-out game in the championship, Dublin v Galway in Parnell Park, I had to go to the terrace and stand in a jam-packed terrace for 2 hours. I could hardly see the game. My friend who had no season ticket was able to go to the stand and told me there was lots of free spaces there. Now they are offering me tickets at a reduced rate to the ladies final! I have great respect for our camogie players but not impressed with the amateurs in charge of the GAA.

I'd say enough people told them to stick their €7 programmes where the sun don't shine that it turned out being a law of unintended consequences/diminishing returns.

Are you infirm or something that you couldn't stand with all the others ?
Something to give out about about I suppose.

catch22 you are deliberately misreading Baire's post there. I think what Baire is saying is very valid. Season ticket should get you a decent standard of vantage point all the ways through the championship.

Joe Duffy has hosted shows on RTE with a lot of complaints about the season ticket scheme. I would'nt go near it to be honest.

€7 a bit steep for a programme all right, but according to a man who should know, it was the first price increase since 2004 -

There's not much else that hasn't gone up in price in that time…..

Why is that like ? You're already getting good value for money. Why would you be entitled to an advantageous spot in the stand ?
Not deliberately doing anything by the way it's that people are offended and put out by every little thing these days. Always looking at the "I'm entitled to this and I'm entitled to that " angle.
You'd be sick of it like.

Why does the GAA promote season tickets?
I never said I was entitled to anything. I wrote about this to make others aware that it's actually disadvantageous to have a season ticket for certain games in the championship. It wasn't just the fact that I was standing for two hours, I couldn't see the game while standing because my view was obstructed most of the time. I'd happily pay the extra money to have a proper view of the game - I'll know better the next time.

I hope people didn't take it out on the kids selling the match programmes, it wasn't their fault. They're just patsies sent out by the GAA offeeshals to collect the dosh. Would be interested to know if there was a drop off in sales though.
