GAA Sneakily Moving Hurling Quarter-Finals To Croke Park?

The GAA are shrewd. After Donegal's attempts for neutral and home venue fairness in Croke Park, the GAA have moved the hurling quarter-finals to Croke Park. The GAA were certain Dublin would beat Laois and be in the quarters, that's why they're there. That's why the biggest game is the curtain raiser, simply to facilitate late entry of Dublin fans. They actually did it quite publicly in the media and all print media. Trying to connect hurling decisions to football ones is pretty pointless. Had Tipp not been playing it would have been in Thurles. I'd expect to see 60k attendance. Tipp probably won't travel well because they're playing Laois and will expect to win at a canter but I think KK, Cork and Laois will bring decent numbers. The GAA refer to the group stage as quarter-finals with phase 1, phase 2 and phase 3. Saw all four hurling quarter finals in Croker in 2007. Great atmosphere, four great games, all exciting and people seemed to enjoy it. Biggest winning margin was 10 points with Kilkenny bagging 2-2 against Galway late on to beat Loughnane's Galway. Average winning margin was < 5 points. Cork v Waterford was a brilliant game, draw. It definitely worked as an experiment. But there is something about Thurles & hurling that just go together. I've seen Limerick win & lose quarter finals there and the ground is relatively easy to get to, great atmosphere and it sets everyone who qualifies for the semi final up for a trip to the capital. I dunno, I can't see the attendance being close to 60k, I'd say 40k at a push, maybe even less. Hope I'm wrong though. Cork will bring good numbers, they travel well in fairness. I'm not sure about the Tipp crowd for this one. To be fair, the crowds at the 5 games we've played so far average at 31,000, so someone's going to the games. But I'm not sure we'll have big numbers this weekend. And Kilkenny don't bring big crowds with them typically, so I doubt their crowd will be much bigger than Tipp's. Laois are the wildcard for me. They had a decent crowd at the McDonagh final, and a big crowd in Portlaoise last weekend. So a big crowd from them might bring the attendance to over 40k. And I think the Laois crowd will bring the most life next weekend, so thats going to be good. But yeah, attendance-wise, I'd love if it was 60k, but can't see it breaking 40.
