Mayo V Kerry

Durcan was also a huge loss to them too. I think if they had their full panel they would have beaten you at the weekend but sure we will never know. Just because Mayo were beaten does not mean my opinion is wrong btw. The two are not mutually exclusive. Also, I actually like Kerry football like most football. It's some of the supporters I've met & obviously posters on here that I dont like. It's the arrogance you see. It's just a trait I don't like & a lot of Kerry folk have arrogance in abundance. No agenda. A simple dislike."
Alot of Kerry fans have always been arrogant thinking they have a god given right to win the all Ireland every year but with success comes arrogance

It's funny if we try to be humble we're told we're being condescending ( ala SC ) and we're all yerah yerah

We can't win.

The reality for Mayo is its going to be a huge struggle to replace some of the older guard. Higgins, Barrett & Boyle are still so important to Mayo with no obvious replacements. Looking at that Mayo team Sunday I bet its still the oldest team in the Super 8's by a couple of years. As well as starting with 4 lads in their 30's there was another 4 who are 29 and then the likes the elder O'Shea and Moran who are both well in their 30's came of the bench. Its going to be a hard job finding quality replacements for all those lads.

Dublin started with 4 lads in their 30s against Meath in the Leinster final, 3 more came on as subs. 3 or 4 29 year olds. I dont think if you took an average age of the mayo team and Dublin team there would be much difference. Mayo have also played 33 players in the championship so far this year including around 10 debutants who should benefit from the championship experience this year.

That is a reason why I don't think Dublin will dominate the next 6 or 7 years as they done since 2013 but they have far more quality players aged in their mid 20's and under. They've Fenton, O'Callaghan, Small, McCaffrey, Mannion, Kilkenny, Howard, Scully & Costello whilst Mayo have the two O'Connors, Ruane, Harrison & Durcan who are genuine quality whist there's questions marks about the others still like Carr, Coen & McDonagh.

Mayo are going to need to find quality players to replace the likes of Higgins, Barrett & Boyle which I don't think exist.

Sure Roscommon beat Mayo and Roscommon got badly exposed by Tyrone

Mayo barely got by Down/Armagh (Armagh should have really won) and had Mayo had a poxy string of crippling injuries to key personnel before having to travel south.

It was a fine win for Kerry albeit against a Mayo side hopping on the one foot and even that foot had a big juicy blister on it.

If Mayo had a wee bit more luck on the injury front they'd have given a far better account of themselves as they've proven they can beat Kerry and have done a few times now

If Meath find a performance against a similarly depleted Mayo side off the back of a spirit draining loss I think Meath could win or st least cause plenty of problems. Meath played well against Donegal for large parts

Mayo are on their last legs and it's mainly down to their injuries

Nope, I'm on here sometimes legitimately highlighting their unfair advantages compared to other counties - not the same as whinging about their winning. Even if they weren't winning it would still be outrageous for 1 county to have so many home games, so much funding etc etc.
I have a great fear this year is a no win situation. Either the Dubs do the 5 in a row - which I think would make a mockery of what the GAA stands for. Or else they fail and then the powers that be can hold this up as proof everything is a-ok and Dublin's preferential treatment continues unabated.

We're not getting too carried away, Mayo had an off day for sure and the injuries didn't help. Kerry we're really up for it, after losing the first game last year they weren't going to let it happen again and it gave us more urgency then Mayo. Sometimes it's hard to know where the line falls between how good a side was on the day and how poor the opposition played. All the same delighted with the performance and the way the lads stood up

Funny, I did not hear anybody complaining when Dublin won one All Ireland, and were very lucky indeed to win that one, between 1983 and 2011. Fact is great teams, like KK in the last 20 years, and Dublin come and go.

They didn't have a great team then. They have a great team now but the advantages in terms of money esp but also Croke Park as the home ground turns a great team into a team that can dominate to an extent other similarly talented teams couldn't. I've said it many times, if Kerry of the 2000s played their games in Killarney and had that funding what would they have won? You can be damn sure they would have been going for 4 or 5 in a row.
Anyway I've said it all before and will leave it there - big game coming up Sunday we'll worry about Dublin if or when our paths cross again.

Tis true for you indeed. Some Kerry folk don't like others who get an advantage but happy to plow away to the ruination of football in Munster. No problem there though.

You know as Kerry people we sometimes forget how back in 1905 we threatened to invade and eradicate every footballer east of the Feale if the other 5 counties of Munster did not cease and desist playing the big ball game.
Ever since then we've had it easy alright with the Cork's, Clare's,Waterford's, Limerick's, Tipperary's having to send out junior hurling teams, disguised as footballers, to keep up the pretense for the Munster Council.
I mean look at the calibre of "footballers" we have had to face in Munster even in recent years - fellas like Graham Canty, Nicholas Murphy, Michael Quinlivan, Michael Brennan, John Galvin - what a bunch of charlatans they were.
Catch 22 knows it best, places like West Clare, South Tipp, West Limerick and West Cork - never a football seen from Jan to December every year.
And you might think if you looked at all the so called football clubs in West Cork that in that area alone they have a bigger footballing pool and support for the game than most other counties, but no you'd be wrong as Catch 22 knows only too well.
You might look at the records for Division 1 and 2 of the League and appearances in All-Ireland Quarter finals down the years and think there's been quite a few Munster teams in and around there, but no tis all a lie, all a lie.
Indeed you might also see that Munster teams have contested the All-Ireland final against each other twice but again sure it was only Kerry playing the Kerry juniors who dressed up in red.
I tell you this Catch 22 know the pulse of Munster football, sorry I mean Kerry football of course!

We truly are the ruination of Munster - how dare we send out teams to compete and win. We should have the good sense to disband football in the county for the benefit of the Munster championship.

Don't bite. I've not been on here long but I can already tell catch 22 only seems to be on here for the sole purpose of laying into Kerry and Kerry people whatever the topic
