Hurling Referees.

(Oldest Posts First)

I attended the Kilkenny v Wexford Leinster Final last Sunday and I thought the Referee did not have a good game, but it was only when I viewed the full recording later, that I realised how bad he really was.
Games like this are won and lost on small margins and that is what happened last Sunday, in Wexfords favour this time. I really believe that a Ref should be from outside the province of the teams involved, and not from a neighbouring county, also someone who has experience of refereeing a game of this magnitude.
There was a referee doing the line last Sunday, who should have been in charge.
To say "Swings and roundabouts"did not apply last Sunday.
As for the Umpires, i believe the Refs can bring their own, and if that is the case, then that should be stopped now.
Congrats Wexford, not your fault, and I hope you go on and win it now, and keep Marty Morrissey quiet about his great "Munster Hurling".

Swings and roundabouts apply from year to year as well as during actual games, so I don't think Kilkenny have too much to complain about even back to DJ's ten plus step goal years ago.......against.......who.........Wexford of course.
It was the wide count that did ye on Sunday more than the referee.

*** STOP THE PRESS ***
Kilkenny are moaning about a referee.
I have watched the match back too. I thought we could have got a few more frees too, as could KK. Every ball that went in between Liam Ryan and Colin Fennelly was 50/50 both were fouling.

If it is so easy, go get a whistle and referee.

Give a few incidents please? I could highlight at least four frees that wexford didn't get?

As For the wide count i think it really is lazy analysis.

Below is a breakdown of the wides -

Kilkenny -12

Long balls into forwards looking for goals - 2
Long aimless deliveries from backs or frees that dribbled - 3
Colin Fennelly kick at the end- 1
Wides under pressure from Wex players - 3
"Bad Wides" - 3

Wexford - 3

Wides under pressure from KK players - 1
"Bad Wides" - 2

You're whining and feeling sorry for yourself in equal measure.
I mean seriously, 'congrats Wexford, not your fault' is just condescension.
It suggests that if the game was reffed 'properly' ie the way you think it should be, then you'd have won.
The standard of reffing is poor right across the board, but that's not the reason Kilkenny lost the Leinster final.
They lost because they were beaten by the better team.

Not the reason Kilkenny lost but some of the refs currently being 'promoted' due to their geographical location is a joke.....matches being ruined as they are incompetent and unable to do the job required......anyone who thinks the standard of reffing in the championship has been good this year needs their head examined ........

Obviously i ruffled a few feathers down in wexford, although didnt mean to do that, but sure the ref was from wicklow, and dont we know that wexford and wicklow all marry each other and speak with a very similar accent.
That was a very dangerous high pull in to the face of Adrian Mullen. Two guys shoulder to shoulder at a throw in, but the wexford player performed a high follow through which struck Mullen in the face. No action taken.
There was a 65 given to wexford ( converted ) which clearly showed did not hit Huw Lawlor on the way over the end line. There was a free in to wexford ( converted ) which should have been a free out, as pauric walsh was high tackled on the way out. Even Donal O Grady said it on the sunday game, and he wouldent be a lover of kilkenny.
Thats only three incidents, there were a lot more.
Look wexford, its as simple as this, ye had to get a mercenary from outside the county to coach ye, and as for the homecoming for winning a provincial final, that says it all.
Kilkenny would have put the cup away and focused on the semi final.
I think ye have had yer all ireland.
Tipp must be licking their lips.

Give it a rest Bobcat, please.

PS the strike on Mullen was completely accidental, I've watched it again.

While I do agree a lot of the refs/umpire decsions went Wexfords way on the day (i know you're not allowed mention these things when the sentiment if the country is with your opponents) but you're on your own after that post!

as your own county legend dj carey once said when asked about a referee "sure i made three times as many mistakes as he did,as did every player on the pitch"
if kk players hadnt been so cocky as to go for goals with 5 minutes left they could have got something from the game.that is much more of a reason why they lost.
if paddy deegan hadnt hit the ball wide at the end,if they hadnt had 12 other wides, etc.
go take your beating like sportsmen and shut up about the referee.if its not good enough go get a whistle
