Replying To Dessie_Cross:  "Moving the club finals from St. Patricks Day is sacrilege.
Most young players I know dream of lifting Andy Merrigan on St. Patricks day representing their club.
It was a huge success. Why change it? St. Patricks day became a great day for the clubs football and hurling.
Then the GAA decide to relegate it to January. Can't believe it to be honest."
I think it's a players dream to play in a final in croke park regardless of the month,

Is this only the senior club finals? What about the junior/intermediate or do they not count?

For players from successful teams in the lower grades who get a try out with the county team it would probably be more important to be available for league matches.

Surely they have considered all the grades and not just the senior.....that would be like setting up a tier 2 championship and not really giving it any attention.

I reckon they should just get all club competitions finished within the one calendar year. I don't see how the vast majority of counties can't get their club championships finished by October 31st. That leaves all of November for the provincial club championship and December for AI semi and final. There may be issues with weather conditions and some might say that it's a bit congested. But as the previous poster said, it will only impact a very small % of club players nationally. Do we want to free up space on the calendar or not? Something has to give and lets face it, it'll be more likely that the club competitions are the ones that will have to compromise.
