All Britain Football Final

(Oldest Posts First)

Best wishes to Warwickshire and Scotland in the All Britain Football final. I hope the Scotland team and mentors find the funds to enable them to travel to Birmingham for the final without incurring financial losses.

As a matter on interest are Scotland in the final on merit? Of their three games in their qualifying section they won one game,
had a w/o away to Yorkshire
and conceded the away game to Gloucestershire.

Hertfordshire, on the other hand, defeated Gloucestershire when travelling to Birmingham to do so,
they then few from Luton to Glasgow on the day of the game and lost in a very closely fought encounter against Scotland,
Yorkshire conceded the game to Hertfordshire.

Could it be rightly argued that Scotland and Hertfordshire both ended on top with four points? If so, is there a clause that says if two two teams finished with level points the team that won the head to head goes forward to the semi-final? Or is there another formula that allowed Scotland to go through?

Again, as Hertfordshire was the only county willing to play all their games should they rightfully have gone forward to the semi-final versus Kilkenny?

A final point, and an important one, the All Britain GAA Board as the governing body should ensure an official from neutral county referees all games in this competition. This did not happen in the game in Glasgow.

I read that article and as a very active member of Gaelic Games Europe (all GAA in Europe outside of Ireland and the UK) I found their request for funding amusing. We have 80+ Clubs here from Gibraltar to Helsinki and Moscow to Brittany. All of them travel for tournaments at their own expense up to 7 times per year and that may involve 10/12 hour road trips each way or a flight and two nights accommodation to be paid for. But good luck to them if they get some funding
