Cavan In The Qualifiers/ Super 8S

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

After viewing the Mayo v Donegal game on Saturday i have to say that our performance, sorry non performance, in the Ulster Final really shows how far the team have to travel in order to make a breakthrough in Ulster. We made Donegal look like world beaters, something that Meath, Kerry and Mayo did not do over the past four weeks. Indeed Mayo made them look very ordinary and if it were not for some poor finishing and an unfavourable rub of the green they would have dished out a ten point beating to them.

Listen, the ulster championship is over as is the back door and the clubs are in action. We can talk about the county team, their failings and the solutions to their problems next January when we see the squad for the McKenna cup campaign.
Let the clubs have their day !

Whats your problem this topic is about the Super 8 and the year Cavan had up to it independent to the clubs so only right to carry out an autopsy while the damage is still fresh.

I would like to correct that I have been racking my brains and I think I named the wrong man it has to be Pat Flannigan I am open to correction. When you get quality like him on board you look after them.

Lad, Despite all the talk to the contrary, Mayo have been and continue to be the No 2 team in this country. They have been short a number of players this year. Donegal are still a very good team but have a lot of young lads. Mayo are a big strong, seasoned and experienced team and in any other era (without this dublin team) they'd have a couple of All Irelands in my opinion.

Have to agree about Mayo. They are a battle hardened group with building momentum. The Dubs have always found them difficult to beat and now Mayo have them in a semi-final where they might be more vulnerable.

There is definitely a weakness in the Dublin fullback line and they have failed to address it since the Tyrone and Kerry league games. Rory O'Caroll was destroyed last week and Philly isn't the force of old. Mick Fitz is great at reading a game but slowing up a bit as well. James McCarty was tried too. At the end of last years final it was Brian Howard who went back to shoulder them up with great effect towards the end. Maybe he's the obvious choice at no3.

Anyway, hope it's another close game between the two most entertaining teams around.

Dubs have found Mayo difficult to beat but they still beat them when it matters.
I believe this is a better Dublin team this year than the previous few Dublin teams. I'd expect them to beat Mayo by more than 8 points.

So he predicted a score and his post should be respected.

Truth to be told Dublin played a tired Mayo team match after match over a three week period. Croke Park got what they want a Kerry Dublin final full house again. 30 odd thousand at the Tyrone Kerry game speaks volumes for the money men in Croke Park F**K the real supporters. Remember Dublin played a second team last week Mayo have to play what was available less the injured players. All one can hope for is that it's a close game at least. I fear that it took Kerry a half of a match to realise where their issues were they will not get away with that on the 1st September.

Agree, good call stayinyurhouse. Mayo could have done without halftime.

I was st the Kerry / Offaly final when Seamus Darby burst their drive for five. Hope to get to this one as well.

I don't think Kerry are as good as Mayo in defence, and I think the Dubs will stop the supply of ball into the young Kerry forwards. So I expect Dubs to romp home, unless off course the occasion gets to them. What say you?

Considering the occasion ,meaning the 5 in a row hype and all that I'd expect Dublin to win by maybe 4/5 points.
It wasn't really until Cian o Sullivan came on in the 2nd half that they closed up shop and didn't give Mayo a sniff.
Their forward link up play is devestating when it gets going and the Kerry full back line have been vulnerable all year.
Tyrone exploited this at times by going long in McShane .
Man ion is a big scoring treat for Dublin and they even took him off in the middle of 2nd half.
Rock is deadly from placed balls , either with the wind or against. And when you have players like Costello and Bulger and in the subs and lads like Brogan and O Gara who can't even get into the 26 the signs surely point to a 4/5 point Dublin win minimum.

We'll need to hit the ground running in the league whoever we have. A dodgy result or 2 could leave us in a dog fight either top or bottom of D2.

There 10 or 12 that were involved in our last 2 matches against Donegal and Tyrone that should go travelling too..
I'd even buy some of them the ticket myself!!!

what a pathetic response from a hurler on the ditch who wouldnt know the first thing about the effort these lads make to do their best for our county, shame on you little man, with throwaway comments like that is it any wonder that young lads turn there back on their county to do other things with their life .
it is a pity you wouldnt take your own advice and travel off to some distant island all by yourself so that you can wallow in your own drivel. now thats something I'd pay for.
