Maybe I have missed something, but with regards Hoganstands football ranking how can Cork be ranked 9th in Ireland? LohansRedHelmet (Clare) - Posts: 2431 - 21/06/2019 15:48:00 2198328 Link 1 |
The most accurate ranking table is over on boards.ie by laoisman11. A lot of detailed work put into it.

Who cares about rankings? After Cork hammer Kerry tomorrow, we will vault to number 1. On our way to another double. Only 2 teams can do it now.. Cork and Dublin. Rockies (Cork) - Posts: 947 - 21/06/2019 18:19:58 2198379 Link 3 |
And Laois. Ridiculous I know, but so is your suggestion cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4977 - 21/06/2019 18:55:19 2198388 Link 0 |
It would be a breath of fresh air if ye won the double . Best of luck Rockies.

Absolutely. They are fantastic. It's a pity he / she doesn't post them here I don't have a boards account but I do have a snoop at the GAA forum there sometimes.

His ranking system is truly brilliant. So much detailed work and effort put into it over a number of years. I will try and find them and post them here. I think some people can place far too much emphasis on a team's last performance when ranking teams. They say you are only as good as your last performance but we all know that this doesn't make for a very accurate ranking system. How many times do we see a team put in one poor performance and then they are completely lambasted as having regressed.. 'Ah they have gone back' is what we hear. All based off one performance! It's crazy stuff. Any team can get caught out on the day. Any team can be flat or underperform on the day, but it is not always a fair reflection of where they are at. The same can work the other way too. Donegal were seen as maybe the 6th/7th ranked team and then put in a good performance beating Tyrone, who completely underperformed on the day. Now everyone is saying we are the team most capable of putting it up Dublin!! A lot of people are basing that completely off one game where Tyrone performed nowhere near their own potential. This is so true,it's actually unbelievable! I wouldn't mind but its the majority of media and pundits who put a team way down the rankings after a loss.. guarantee that if donegal lose tomorrow and tyrone and/or mayo have convincing wins then it will be them 2 who will be back having a chance to beat dublin and donegal won't have a hope It's such lazy sh*te journalism and its coming from a lot of former players aswel which is disappointing. achara (Monaghan) - Posts: 558 - 22/06/2019 13:36:13 2198564 Link 0 |
Fair play on the effort but I fail to see how New York can be ahead of London.

His rankings are very good and the quality of work he puts into it is brilliant. NY don't play league so avoiding multiple beatings probably helps their ranking. That's the anomaly you're seeing there. But by and large he's very accurate. Think the scoring system is weighted a bit for championship results too so a good run there can move a team well up on what final league positions might reflect. I think this is fair. Divisions 2 and 3 can be very dog eat dog and one or two bad results can scupper a promotion charge or suck you into relegation territory. But one good championship result can bounce you up the rankings again. Fair enough I'd say. Hardtimes (Cavan) - Posts: 1056 - 22/06/2019 15:09:07 2198582 Link 0 |
The hogan stand rankings a load of rubbish. Donegal have jumped to no. 2 from nowhere after beating Tyrone who had a bad day. Believe me I would love if Donegal were genuinely the steongest team outside Dublin but it seems a bit premature. I guess you could say there really isn't much difference between the teams from 2 to 10. Green_Gold (Donegal) - Posts: 1870 - 22/06/2019 18:53:43 2198635 Link 0 |
The amount of Donegal posters saying the reason Donegal best Tyrone was because Tyrone underperformed. Did ye even see the game? Totally outplayed Tyrone all overbthe park and never let Tyrone play. Almost as complete a performance as you will see and a tactical master class. I really wonder sometimes if some posters have the slightest clue sbout football and just like the sound if their own voice. Talk about revisionism!!
