Well done Armagh and hard luck to Monaghan, sounds like Armagh are building a strong team again.

Fresh voice now garaunteed, alot if good young talent in the county. Division 1 will be a tough place to blood new talent but a great opportunity for young hungry players to claim a place in the squad
Good minor teams this year and last so we have a future with the right management team as you are all to aware

Malachy owes us nothing and gave us some good league and championship memories

Replying To Ned_Stormcrow:  "Well, I called it correctly. Monaghan, as I said, are a team on the wane and they simply haven't the quality to replace Wylie and McManus. They looked bereft of ideas against Cavan, and they were even worse against Fermanagh. This result was coming.

Well done Armagh."
We'll see how Cavan get on tomorrow Ned when they're out against the Big boys!

Could see this coming. This Monaghan team looked finished from early this year. They just don't have the young talent coming through to replace what had been a great group of players. The rebuilding will start now for Monaghan but their day in the sun is over for some time and relegation from Div1 is very likely next year.

Sad to hear that, malachy did a great job but like you say maybe a new voice needed,

Darran huges was an awful loss as well.

Agree with most of that bar not having the talent. Will take a few years but there is some good underage talent in the county we got within whisker of all Ireland final last year in the minors and are back in ulster final again this year going for two in a row something no minor team from county has ever done. Know that gurantees nothing but its a good basis and the interest and confidence in football in the county born out of the last decade is something monaghan never really had before in last 30 years. Compared to a lot of counties with simlar resources we aint doing too badly as regards future planning. Malachy was a great manager for us but he didn't develop properly a lot of the lads who won 2016 u21 and look to bring them through. Can understand why as he had a great group of players there already and wanted to exhaust as much as possible out of them which he did last summer nearly reaching an all ireland final. The next man will have a rebuilding job on his hands for sure but a lot of players still there not as bad as they looked this year and a new voice will hopefully ensure that. Staying in div 1 this year was probably a bad thing as will be v difficult trying to blood new lads and we will probably go down doing it but hopefully we will be back in the mix in the next few years.

I agree I do not have any concerns for our future in the long term, maybe in the short term considering their league position
Only those deluded enough to think this is an opportunity for Banty to return realise now how difficult a good replacement will be to get.

Armagh are a very good team, they are big hit hard but fair and can create and take scores. They are going well and MC Geaney finally has a team built to his required qualities. Good luck to them
I hope they make the Super 8s

Monaghan have a lot of talent coming through. Good Minors last year & again this year. Made short work of your young lads in Ulster Semi on Friday. So to Tir Conaill & our other begrudgers on here....don't worry about the future of Monaghan football...it's in good hands !

Well you were near enough right Ned. Nobody saw the extent of that coming though. If they did, I hope they put money on it as they would have got a serious price.

Replacing McManus? Aside from Dublin there is not a team in the country that can replace that sort of talent....not straight away anyway. He is a top class player. Not sure which Wylie you are on about but I assume Drew. I would say he is more a bench starter at this stage. There is talent coming through but whether is good enough and whether we get good management in remains to be seen. U17 won Ulster last year, we are in the final again this year. That needs to be nurtured and developed over time. I would love to see Stephen Rochford come in but I am not sure that would happen. People have us wrote off now. Interesting to see how that goes and how our league campaign goes next year. If we drop (and we are surely favourites with Meath for the drop) it could be free fall unless we get the management team right.

Love all this talk about Monaghans demise, one fallow year does not a famine make. They'll be back rattling your nets soon enough.
