I did not say Donie Kingston was as good as Michael Murphy. He is the same type of player, big, strong a good fielder and able to kick points and he will have to be dealt with as he poses a serious threat. Also he does not have as good a team with him as Michael Murphy.

If we adopt the notion that he does not pose a very serious threat we could very easily regret it.

Also I don't think we ever were in trouble.
This is the problem this Meath team faces. They can't win no matter how they play, win by 2 v Offaly and it's shocking win by 15 v Carlow and it's expected, and we didn't do it well enough."
Woah, woah, woah now don't start your claptrap with me. I told you before I've very little time for it and very few other posters do either from what I see. Of course you'll use that as ammunition to fortify what you said but I figured I'd let you know all the same. I'm making observations and putting across my opinion for constructive debate, don't mind a bit of banter either of course. I'm not going to launch into personal riff raff without substance like your post above and in future I won't reply and I'll join the army of lads and lassies who just read and put those red thumbs down to show my disinterest.

You can flip this whole conversation and say who are they gonna get to mark McMahon? Newman? Biggy? Conlon etc.

You said Murphy sending off changed the game?? That is plainly inaccurate and wrong. Game was well over, and we never looked like loosing. If you don't want to be pulled up on things like that, then don't write stupid comments. Really is that simple.

That last two sentences is so beautifully ironic that I had to laugh. But yeah, you're dead right. Fair play, I don't know what I was thinking to be honest. How silly of me.

Alright look, I'll bite. My points are in relation to the fact that all games are a standalone contest in and of themselves. Particularly one off championship games. You took the high road and assumed I was having a go because we stumbled past Offaly which a lot of people were bemused at, myself included I must admit. Then we hammered Carlow, and I stated constructive criticisms and a few mitigating factors such as Carlow being weakened substantially on pitch and on the sideline. So essentially you took my points as that I'm never pleased, no matter what the outcome, and that isn't the case. I am stating that there are big areas of concern for the upcoming fixtures and beyond on our own team and on the teams we will play. Furthermore this is a forum where people chat about a common interest constructively, and actually build up a rapport and reflect on the situation within their own county. Go onto another county forum and you'll see a reflection of their fortunes in the posts. Now I don't want to get too philosophical for you in case you get confused and take the conversation down to the basement level again, so that was and will always be what I was getting at, we are very far from the finished product, and I think your ham fisted and often snide remarks are the textbook example of uncertainty and anxiety in Meath supporters. I'm willing to engage with you if there is a point to your posts other than to knock other posters for putting across valid points.

I couldn't agree more that we are not the finished article, my main point was you and others (it wasn't only you) that the game changed when Murphy got sent off. The game was over as a contest at halftime, two goals game over. Carlow were not even going to get close. That was my point. As for sideline missing he was in stand on Bluetooth the whole match so really didn't make a ounce of a difference, personally I think a manager can get a better view of the situation from a stand, but that is subjective.
As for Brendan Murphy missing, it certainly didn't help Carlow but the result would have been similar, this Meath team are far superior to Carlow and once they clicked they would always win, they didn't click for whatever reason v Offaly and still won .
Laois are better than either and are probably of division two standard (promotion would back this up) and they wouldn't have been out of place with us this year with all the other counties but I feel we are a year or two ahead of them and will win come next Sunday.
I think the management and players deserve our backing for the efforts they have put in, restoring some respectability to the county. Everyone can nit pick, we are not the finished article by any means, but by Jesus we hell lot better than we were.

I'm ot going to lie, very impressed with McMahon. Get him onto a dry pitch in Croker and he could tear it up. How's his form with Rotoath this year?

Yes, I am excited about Mc Mahon aswell he has been great all year. He was great in Croke park all ready this year untill he got injured, him coming was probably a turning point against Donegal. He is becoming a key player for us. I taught he looked real dangerous against Carlow especially in first 15 20 minutes when we where finding it hard to get scores, He was ruunning hard at them and sucking defenders in. He started the move that lead to the first goal. He layed it of the keoghan. I think its been a massive improvement for him this year. and consistent as well. I am not from Rathoath so I cant answer second part of the question. But not doubt he will Continent his good for.

But if u look at McMahon he is a championship player. In 2014 v Carlow in leinster championship he scored 1 - 4 at centre forward and was man of the match. In 2015 in first half v Westmeath in. championship in Croker he was running riot scored 2 brillant goals and one of his goals was voted one goals of the season on tnag. Hes a player in dry conditions and open spaces of Croker will really shine. He has had allot of the injuries over the years and lots of being dropped from the team after starting. McEntee has basically played him in every game and while he didn't start the league greatly, given him a run of games has given him confidence and he is now flying. He is a quality footballer who is 24 so he can only get better. I think playing him on the 40 gets the best out of him.

Is he only 24?? Jesus thought he was 26/27. He's been on panel awhile so you forget how young some are when they start.

100 % the half forward line the the place for him. It takes the pressure of scoring which has eraticte in the pass. He been good at tacking hard for the play also seems to more physical and tougher lately also

Ur right Royaldunne it does feel like allot of our players are much older then they are. Yes McMahon is 24. He was a Meath under 21 player in 2014 on a Meath team.that lost a leinster final to Dublin. Harnan was on that under 21 team.also. Harnan is 24 also..Shane McEntee, Adam Flanagan Andy Colgan and Conor McGill were also on that under 21 Meath team in 2014. While players like James McEntee Cillian Sullivan Barry Dardis are 25 or 26. So in next 2 to 3 years there is a group of footballers on our team that are going to peak if you take 27 as an age a footballer peaks. Just as we are promoted to div 1. And players returning and new young exciting talent coming thru. All the signs are we will be stronger next year whatever happens this year. Even if we were relegated next year the team are young enough to get promoted again and have another stab at div 1 football. Cavan and Roscommon had two attempts and failed on both occasions ( even though Roscommon did stay in div in 2016 or 2017 ). But Galway are the county that have shown the way to stay in div 1. If we stay in div 1 everything changes for the positive.

This is how I see it. I will put it really simply. Galway are the best example for us.
1 Kevin Walsh achieved very little in his first two years in charge of Galway. McEntee the same with Meath. It was the same for Eugene McGee Mick Dwyer and Sean Boylan the three top most sucessful leinster managers outside Dublin. It takes years to turn a traditional county around thats being in the doldrums.
In year 3 Walsh achieved promotion but had a poor championship. In year 3 McEntee achieved promotion will he have a good or poor championship.
In year 4 Walsh makes the breakthrough stays in div 1 beat kerry in championship.
In year 4 McEntee makes the break through?. Time will tell. I think we will.

For me McEntee will be only half way through his tenure this year. This job is a 6 year job at least. Lets say we get relegated next season. We sud be aiming for promotion the following season. Cavan and Roscommon got promoted then relegated and promoted again. They have yo yoed. But it has helped both counties development , Roscommon have won Connacht title beating Galway in a final for first time in 20 years , beat Mayo in castlebar first time in 33 years and reached 2 super 8 / q finals. And Cavan defeated Monaghan. Its all down to div 1 football. If we could stay in div 1 for 3 seasons we close the gap with Dublin dramatically. If we were relegated next year and get promotion the year after, we spend 2 out of 3 years in div 1 we close the gap.with Dublin dramatically also. Players peaking , players returning , new exciting talent coming thru. This is possible Winning leinster title in 2022 could be attainable achievement.
Definatly feels things r going in the right direction. This year it would be great to have good championship but next spring is the big one. Sucess next spring could be the turning point for Meath football.
