Donegal Vs Tyrone In Cavan=Disgrace

(Oldest Posts First)

So I was scrolling through twitter and quite a few people are making a great argument as to how this match should be in Celtic Park in Derry. Which is the logical option; it is easier to get to for both counties and the journey would be much shorter for the fans and both teams. Celtic Park holds 18'500 people which would be ideal and the pitch in general is a great pitch to play on. The GAA are spitting in the faces of the fans and disrespecting the players once again; if they had any sense they would change the venue, they have enough time to do so.

It's not a disgrace! Breffni is a great ground and can hold a bigger crowd

Capacity in Breffni is 26,000 which going by your figures makes it 7,500 more. It is also a much easier ground to get to from other parts of Ulster & Dublin where a lot of Donegal & Tyrone people live

I do like Celtic Park as a venue but would it have a large enough capacity for the match? Breffni Park is great for a match, easy to get in and out of and holds a big crowd.

Celtic Park can be a nightmare logistically getting in and out of. I am down the country so actually delighted it is in Bref. Plus as pointed out much easier to get in and out of than Celtic Park. I imagine those in south Donegal prefer it in bref too.

Breffni is a superior venue to Derry. Always like going to games there. Easy to get in and out of. Derry is not easy to get in and out of. Perplexing why this thread even exists to be honest.

I think Breffni could even be used for ulster finals in the future if needs be.

Breffni is a far better venue for this game. Can hold a bigger crowd more easily with the capacity and road access. Good memories of beating Donegal in 1994 Ulster semifinal at this venue and it has been well developed since.

Think Breffni is a better venue than Celtic Park and easier to get in and out of too. But I feel this is more GAA politics at play here. I remember 10 odd years ago when you couldn't get a game there for love nor money. Was always ignored as a neutral venue when it seemed a far better option. Seems to have been a sea change recently too. Many counties enjoy coming there, it is a good venue. The fact that there were no games there last year due to a new pitch being laid down (Cavan played a home match on Enniskillen) and the fact the Cavan are fundraising for a centre of excellence, shows GAA are funneling some games there. They always seem to when an area needs it. The pitch right now if unreal though after it was redone, it's like a carpet... It'll be a great game there, I'll probably go myself

Clones on Ulster Final day is something else.. a cultural experience! More to do with 30 thousand people turning up in a wee town in the middle of nowhere than the stadium itself. But for lesser games with smaller crowds there often isn't much of an atmosphere. I was happy to hear the game was in Breffni.

On the Celtic park point, I think the capacity is just a bit too small for this game. I'd generally be in favor of using smaller grounds for Semi Finals to get better atmosphere's going and save on the travel

Breffni Park is a vastly superior ground to Celtic Park. Bigger capacity, newly laid pitch, well connected to major roads. That said it is very surprising that the game isn't in Clones. Still, we'll give our Northern brethren a warm welcome in what should be a cracking game.

if your in the gerry arthurs stand clones is fine, vantage points are much better from a spectator point of view all around breffni, parking in clones is a bloody nightmare

The view from the Hill in Clones is great too with the entire terrace well above the pitch.

And as mentioned above, the proximity to the town, and the size of the town makes for a great atmosphere.

I don't think it's any harm to hold the 2 semi finals in 2 different venues tho and am glad Breffni was chosen for this game.

IF we beat Armagh, I'll be going to Breffni for this one. Should be a cracker!
