Divisional teams can't represent the County in Provincial Championship, but it would probably raise the standard by having 2 or 3 Divisional teams in Senior Championship . There isn't a Senior Club in West Cavan from Belturbet to Shannon Gaels. Players like Enda Henry, Ryan Connolly, Nevin O Donnell, Chris Curran, Jason Mclaughlin, Liam Galligan, would help improve the standard.

It's probaly pie in the sky talk though, as clubs wouldn't vote for it.

It was tried a number of years ago. Some of the Junior teams amalgamated to enter a team in the Senior championship, but the fixtures were a farce and gave them no hope.
They were playing their Junior Champion games on a Friday night and the Senior championship game on a Sunday.

It could work if they maybe played Junior Championship as knockout instead of playing 4 games to reach Quarter final , which would be less clashing of fixtures,
Or play the Junior Championship at a earlier date..

It works down in Kerry..

They play Junior, Intermediate and Senior championship and a senior club championship. So there are two championships for clubs plus the league. I can't see Cavan CCC ever been able to deliver that.

Looking back at the C'ship and forward to the next Inter County Campaign, I was trying to think of players who stood out who MIGHT make a difference to the Cavan panel.

Sure, there are plenty of lads whom you could say showed enough in the c'ship to earn a spot on next years panel, and could improve to be a top IC player in a few years. But the unfortunate reality is that there are very few that you could realistically even weigh up against the Ulster final starting team of last year and argue that lads not on the panel might be better/make a difference if brought in/add something different to the team, straight away if brought in for the coming year.

Below is my list of lads who MIGHT fit that criteria:

Paul Smith (Castlerahan)
Conor Smith (Killygarry)
Evan Doughty (Cucuhulainns)

It's a very small list if we are honest with ourselves and some of the above might even cut the mustard either.

After that, you have a few opt outs like Givney, Cole, Tierney, Fergal Flanagan (B'Bridge), Barry Reilly & Johnny McCabe who might be useful but some of those got half and chance and didnt set the world alight also.

I'm afraid the boat might now have been missed to win an Ulster title by the 4 in row u21's, and the conveyor belt is not churning out players even of that quality now or certainly not as many of them at once now, and we could be in for another steep decline in the coming years unless Mickey really is a special manager.

I think the last 2 years it's been organized grand. The League was finished before the championship. League finals in July. Other years it use to drag into December.

There is still a long break for Clubs. Some clubs finished end of August and no competitive football until League starts in April..

Laragh won the Intermediate but were waiting 4 weeks I think before playing in Ulster. A league or 2 in between then would have helped, but that's the flip side of having league finished before Championship.
Castlerahan were waiting 3 weeks and played a challenge game. Glenties were after playing 3 tough games and were sharper.. They would have still beaten Castlerahan regardless though .

the Kerry championship took place back in April and May, that is a time period that can definitely work for Cavan GAA. that's if they're serious about raising the standards. apart from that, there's an attitude in Cavan football that will win you nothing and it's being brought on to the county panel too. when the going gets tough a lot of them don't want to know about it, there's a self destruct button that comes with a lot of them too. that to me is more important to fix than the championship structure (even though I'm in favour of regional teams) how to change players attitudes though? point me to the person with the answer for that.........

It's rare that happens, but wasn't a good scenario for Austin Stacks. They gathered they would have to get back training when County championship reached semi final stage, as there was only Dr Crokes left
Overall the Kerry Championship is good for bringing on players from smaller clubs A few adjustments could be made.
