I mean they seem to have no problem with the fact a team going for 5 in a row has been allowed home advantage for all but 3 games in a decade and is getting funded hundreds of multiples of any other county but they'll jump up and down about minor not being minor because they changed the age by one year :D

Anyway, your right we need to start translating these minor titles into U20s!!!"

I've tried explaining it to the poor fella but he's obviously a bit on the slow side RAHKILL if he would just look up the allireland minor football roll of honor it might get through to him.

Should call it the U17 All Ireland championship. I know i call our team U17s instead of minors and i see it as more of development grade than u18 was especially now when we have a group stage in Connacht which is very similar to the Ted Webb cup (Connacht U16)

The U20 All Ireland cup given to Kildare last summer as far as i know was the same cup given out at U21 level for decades, does people see that grade as the same? i don't its a poor man competition compared to U21 and played at the wrong time of year.

Anyway well done to Kerry on all their underage success, producing players of the quality of Sean O'Shea David Clifford makes it all worth it.

I'll go back to my original post on this thread as clearly this is going way over your head.

"The fact is Kerry's U18s won 4 in a row All Ireland's not 5.

2014,2015,2016 and 2017 the last year of U18.

The first ever U17 All Ireland was won by Tyrone in 2017 while Kerry that year was beaten by Roscommon in the All Ireland semi final.

Last year Kerry won the U17 All Ireland and they have opportunity to win 2 in a row this year."

No belittling or bitterness about Kerry or what else some has posted here just facts of the matter and if you can't understand them, well then its you that are a little slow.

No all Ireland appearance at senior level since 2015. One league fair enough. But nothing from 5 years of minors. It may take time but Dublin are doing it at u 20 level there 2 years ago I think. Players rolling out.

Mayo for all the talk of their demise have converted minors winners of 2013 into u-21 winners of 2016 and league winners of 2019 and a u-20 final last year. They seem building nicely again.

I'm just struggling to understand how so many minors and nothing at u20 level. There's a few in the crop this year from early years in the seniors yes but still."
It's not that hard to understand the winning teams have only had one attempt at a U21 when they lost the semi final in 2017, and one attempt at and U20 last year sans the two of the best U20 players in the country Clifford and O'Shea.

They have only had two opportunities, it's not like all five winning teams have failed

Only two goes in five years, how does that work Gerry?

They've one it 14,15, 16, 17, 18.

Surely they've entered to subsequent under 20/21 championship?

It's called the allireland minor football championship bud , it was never called the U18 allireland football championship and is not now nor will it ever be called the U17 allireland football championship.

5 in a row baby.

The 2014 team that won the minor competition lost the semi final in 2017. It's worth noting the best player from that minor win, midfielder Mark O'Connor had gone to Australia at that stage and didn't play U21. He was / is a Clifford / O'Shea level talent and was badly missed, although tbh I think they should have had enough without him so no excuses.

The 2015 team never competed at that level due to the missed year with the change from U21 to U20

The 2016 winning team competed at U20 last year but were without Clifford and O'Shea, they were always going to be up against it missing those two and lost the semi final to the eventual winners

The 2017 and 18 teams will enter over the next two years. Again this year they will be without their best players because Clifford and O'Connor will be with the seniors.

This notion that all these minor winning players have fallen off a cliff after minor is a total myth.

I'll take your word for it Gerry, but Kerry have entered the U 21 and U20 grade each year, who has represented them if not minor winning players? Surely the majority are the compliment of the winning minor teams?

From the outside looking in you see the apex of players in Clifford and O Shea from the winning minor teams, Clifford was 2017.

A non local eye would logically conclude that if the best of 17 minor is being brought in already, then what's gone before perhaps arent up to muster, then there is the lack of success at U 20/21. Though I'd accept lads have different development needs and times, but U20/1s seems to be the launch pad and cradle for senior these days and as said it just hasn't happened for Kerry at U 20/1 grade, for whatever reason, I'm sure there are many.

Username I have spelled out the facts for you so you either don't understand or you don't want to understand because it doesn't suit your armchair supposition.

It was 2017 before the 2014 minors would have been fully of age for the U21 competition and I have explained above what has happened since. It doesn't worry or bother me in the slightest as there are good reasons why they haven't won one.

As for Clifford and O'Shea being brought in because what came before them wasn't good enough you can't have watched much of Kerry in recent years if that's your assessment. The team is backboned by the 2014 minor winners now, Foley, Tom O'Sullivan, Gavin White, Burns, O'Beaglaoich and others are all on the team now and they all did very well last year. In the heel of the hunt during the championship 2018 it was the more established players that let us down on the big days. Presumably Kerry will continue to backfill the panel with the best players from subsequent underage teams in the future but it takes time to put all this together and get them used to senior football.

Clifford and O'Shea were brought in because they are too talented not to bring in and they are both big strong lads well able for senior. Any county would have them, we all know how good Clifford is and O'Shea's dead ball abilities are a huge plus because we haven't had a reliable place kicker in a while.

I'll leave it there Gerry this one seems a bit close to the bone.

No worries and it's not close to the bone at all I was just trying to set the record straight. Apologies if I came across as sharp.

The lack of success at U20 is continually brought out as a stick to beat Kerry's young players with but when you actually look at it it's a complete non issue.

I do expect it to be in to the 2020's before it translates to senior when some of these guys reach 24-25 and start coming in to their peak. It's easy to forget how young they still are.

How close to the bone is highlighting to lads like you how the Dubs have played 1 proper away game and only 2 other games at neutral venues during the past decade of unprecedented Championship success? Let alone the 17million + in funding to bankroll it all ;D

I seen the Donegal minors last night in Cavan. I was impressed. Would it be possible they have not shown their true potential this year? They did win a Buncrana cup and I seen why. The raw material is there and be surprised if we not hearing of some of some of the young lads involved. Huge game against Monaghan now who they should have knocked out last year. Not suggesting they will be stopping the Kerry minors but they could be dangerous opponents for anyone if they get to an Ulster final and with it the AI series. Very hard gauge at this level. I seen Galway and Meath in a friendly a few weeks ago and was impressed by both especially Meath yet both have already suffered defeats so just goes to show.

Kerry minors beat Clare yesterday evening by 1:16 to 0:11 in Austin stacks park.

Clare were tough and I think all the games in the early round robin stood to them as they looked very sharp.

So it Cork v Kerry now in the Munster final .
