Lack Of Respect Shown To So Called Weaker Counties In The Media

(Oldest Posts First)

Reading the rag Star today and the piece about Mayo captain Diarmuid O'Connor being ruled out for the New York game this weekend. It goes on to say... "If Mayo beat the Exiles, they will be out again against Roscommon in the provincial semi final on May 25 in Castlebar. It's a complete insult to Leitrim. Something similar happened with Sligo being written off three years ago and If I remember correctly they came out and beat Roscommon who thought they had won the game already.

It happens...remember joe Brolly declaring "when cork beat mayo next there will be no lightweight teams left"....minutes before the 2011 quarter final..mayo went on to beat cork

You obviously are not able to interpret /answer a simple question- how often is irrelevant to the issue raised. Very little respect is shown and I'm not surprised as most of our pundits/analysts are unable to carry out the task as most of them behave as parrots - go into the local pub and you average punter would do a better job.

We never ever think we have games won against Sligo before we played. A long history of getting bitten on the arse for that to happen. The star piece was copy and paste job from the Mayo news and it seems nobody has told Mike Finnerty that we play Leitrim in the quarter final.

Less fancied teams win plenty.

Again, as a Monaghan man you should know better. We frequently win when not fancied and frequently lose when fancied (the latter you pointed out yourself to me on another thread)

I can somewhat understand a lack of respect when it comes to the likes of Dublin v westmeath/laois/ourselves etc as most of those games are in fact foregone conclusions. I suppose it is up to us to catch the massive teams and not whinge.

What I DO NOT understand is the likes of meath almost being given a free pass against us in the championship and people trying to build them up like they have a chance of beating the dubs. Deal with us first lads then worry about your other games (qualifiers perhaps).

Roll on 12th may.

I doubt very much the meath team and management are looking past offaly, it be foolish if they were.

Keep it to single digits and Offaly will have had a exceptional game.

Exactly. A one point win will do us.
