Should The GAA Campaign For A United Meath?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

East Meath and West Meath are decent contenders in Leinster. If they united they would put it up to the Dubs. What do ye think about that awesome prospect?

Westmeath is a separate administrativecounty. There are however, two Dail constituencies of Meath West and Meath East.

the 2 counties could merge for Gaelic Football, nothing to do with Dail. Like Galway is in Connacht/Ulster for E.U. and Leinster for hurling. Just an idea to compete with the Dubs etc.

I wouldn't take Westmeath if it was offered to Meath, they can keep it.

Well North Tipperary and South Tipperary were two separate counties before 1884, so it would be a brilliant to unite East and West Meath. Lean ar agaid leis an obair

I'm going to say yes, just out of Curiosity to see what color comes out when you mix Maroon and green and yellow.

Some men want to see the world burn admittedly.

The boys west of the suck will hang on to the maroon. I like the "Royal Lake County" idea.

I remember a good friend's auld lad used to insist there was only 31 counties, he couldn't wrap his head around the fact they were two completely separate counties, wasn't the brightest god love him.
They should trial it in the league, instead of rules that aren't even going to be in the championship :D

I think we could start on a smaller scale, like returning Ballaghaderren to Roscommon. Keep the administrative boundaries intact. But then Louth would have to hand back a bit as well, ha

In 20 years when 60% of the population live in Greater dublin maybe a load of counties amalgamate

Imagine this for a championship 2040

1. Dublin North
2. Dublin South
3. Meath (By now bursting with 400,000 people )
4. Kildare/Wicklow/Wexford
5. Midlands (Westmeath, Laois, Carlow, Offaly, Kilkenny, Longford)
6. Mayo
7. Galway
8. Sligo/Roscommon/Leitrim
9. Cavan/Monaghan/Fermanagh
10. Tyrone
11. Antrim/Down
12. Louth/Armagh
13. Limerick/Clare/Tipp/Waterford
14. Cork
15. Kerry
16. Donegal/Derry

As in the infamous words of Ian Paisley "Never" ha. The Louth/Meath border around Drawda reminds me of the Gaza Strip.

Great idea, how about we go back to when North Leinster was the province of Meath

How come we're being left on our own with a miserable 130000 and falling. I want to amalgamate with Kerry.

Silly me. I forgot to mention that Tipperary also 'confiscated' a parish in Offaly- Moneygall- Remember when Obama came there, he came to Co Offaly. So it would be a good idea to 'incorporate' some strong club from Cavan or Longford into the mix as well, while ye are at it.
