Can't wait for this game. A saturday evening in Croke Park. Sure what else would you be at?!
With the way Donegal finished of their campaign, It will really give us an indication of where we're at in terms of being a potential top 8 side.
Anyway, who should Mark Murphy? McGill or Keogan ?

McGill for me. Tbh today I don't really give a hoot , perhaps it's the after effects of the two shandys but I'm still buzzing from yesterday. I would love to see Conlon play in Croke Park , yes he is light but by Jesus he can turn defenders inside out, and a pitch like Croker could be ideal for him.

I say Mc Gill will pick up Michael Murphy, I dont think they will change much, similar to the way the dealt with most high balls if that's the case. Try and break the ball and flood the area where the ball will break. I agree it would be nice to see Conlon get a run if it a dry night it would suit him.
But there is a national title up for grabs they dont come along to often. Personally I am not overally bothered about the result promotion was the main thing,
I would like the players to get a medal though it would be fantastic to win it. But It depends how Andy and mgt see this there might be scope for freshening up the team after playing for the third weekend in a row.

With Murphy playing out the field I'd let one of Keoghan or Gallagher pick him up. Leave McGill where he is at the edge of the square. You never or rarely saw Lyons or Fay follow a man out the field. Hold your positions and let them break us down. If Murphy moves in then its on McGill as your biggest inside defender to pick him up and match his physicality. They'll likely draw another player out too so there should be a free man available. in the half back line.

This is a bonus game but one which obviously I hope we win, will be great for the lads to get the experience of a big game in Croker before the summer. Hopefully we turn out in numbers and it would be great if we ended up winning it, fingers crossed anyway.

Thats it, Murphy moves with ease anywhere between full-forward and half back line cannot see McGill follow him around field. A very difficult player to man mark.

That's how I see it too. The main thing is achieved this is a bonus game. But good prep for summer

Don't underestimate the importance of this game . Meath have a poor record in Croke Park over the last 10+ years its so important this team change that and get back winning against a top rated team .
I think Croke Park will suit this Meath team it's Andys first game in Croke Park as Meath manager and he'll want to win it looking forward to this game .

Agree with most on here that the main objective has been achieved with promotion.

Looking forward to a good competitive game in Croke Park. A number of players deserve medals so hopefully they get their reward.

Both Donegal and Meath will use this match for their Championship preparations.

Almost wish we were going into a full round of Division 1 games given the momentum we have!

I agree in leaving the players in their rough positions & roles so far.
However whoever suggested Shane Gallagher to pick up Michael Murphy?? Are you having a laugh??
Physically all Murphy, no contest!
Experience all Murphy, no contest!
Croke Park knowledge all Murphy, no contest!
Skill set all Murphy, a slight contest!
Whatever way you look at it, Murphy would be tge winner & therefore ultimately Donegal.
I like Gallagher & think he is a fine footballer but developing at inter county level.

IMO, Conor McGill picks him up, when he goes to full forward, otherwise, let Bryan Menton run with him arpund middle of the park. Both have physicality to match Murphy, skills and abilities in the respective sectors of the field. I think the huge worry is the pace & power of the Donegal half backs & Forwards. We need big performances from middle diamond.

Finally, a National title is at stake so we most definitely put our best foot forward. After all our last senior title of note was 2006, as Leinster SFC title in 2010 was really hard to celebrate & cherish.

You make some valid points, however I do not agree that you need a big robust player to mark him if he plays away from the full forward position. He does not like to be man marked out the field and a man marker would fulfil that task better than a player who is not at his best in that type of role. Anyway I'm sure that the manager will deal with those issues as they arise.

Hi David, i suggested Gallagher pick Murphy up when he's out the field. Obviously McGill takes him when inside. Although I'd agree with your assessment of let Menton follow him but does that then hinder Menton getting into the attack?

Perhaps it might even be Shane who picks Murphy up and does a role there?

Whoever it is they're unlikley to get the best of Murphy, and there's not many in the country who would better him on his day, so lets hope everyone plays to the best of their ability on the day and go from there.

Div 1 achieved ...yes thats progress no doubt ...congrats to all.........The journey back to the top 8 has had a good start. This game is very important to continue momentum ,and at HQ where we need experience for several players..... Andy no doubt will start his best 15 in an attempt to further build confidence against a stronger team now. Our lads need to play against the best in Headquarters .Murphy probably the best forward around now can prove a valuable learning tool for our defenders......No sitting back now......this is not a bonus match. It is a key match for our lads at the right time, and in the right venue. We are a work in progress ,and thus relish the learning opportunity as a part of our journney of recovery. Meath to win !!!

You forgot "it's a game of 2 halves and when the players cross that white line look it they'll need the rub of the green at the end of the day"
