As I'm sure all of you are aware west Donegal suffered an awful tragedy last weekend with the deaths of four young men in a terrible accident. Life can be so cruel and God only knows how the families are going to cope with the desperate loss of their loved ones.

It just got me thinking though. These days we are bombarded daily with Brexit updates, Trump's incoherent ramblings, climate change warnings, fitness gurus telling us what we can and can't eat, do more exercise etc. It is very tiresome and overwhelming.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is, I for one plan to take stock of life and concentrate on the important things. My family and closest friends. Take the time to call or visit your parents and grandparents. Reach out to that friend you haven't seen in a while to see if they'd like to head for a coffee and a catch up. Forget social media - I'm talking about real human contact.

The past few days up here have been very sombre. You never know what's around the corner so don't have regrets when it comes to those you love most.

Really good post LJ ..

I agree with you wholeheartedly ..

God bless those poor guys and their families. Absolutely tragic.

I was just home from Clones when I heard about it, It could have been any of us on the way home from a match or a family occasion or a random drive or whatever the case may be.

Really so sad.

Hope the families, friends and communities of the 4 lads find the strength from somewhere to help them through.

Well said Lockjaw. I reset my life compass a good while back and focused on those who are close to me and important to me in my life. It is too short to be having pointless debates with faceless people on subjects which you can have no influence on anyway. And the way the world has gone if you don't conform to these peoples views then you are pigeon holed and a label stuck on you calling you racist, sectarian, misogynistic, homophobic or whatever.

Nah, give me my boring old life out in the sticks surrounded by my friends and family and people who I care about. Beyond that does it really matter?

Another devastating car accident in Donegal with multiple casualties involved.

Heart felt condolences to all the families and communities involved.

A senseless waste of young life.

Well said Lockjaw, I totally agree. So much of what we hear in the media nowadays is just noise and distraction. I made a conscious decision a couple of years ago to cut out all "noise" radio and TV and be limited in use of social media. Hardly ever watch TV anymore and have the classical music radio station on most of the time in the car and home. We live in a society now that fuels anxiety and fear. The changes I've made at least made me less prone to it...and I still am able to know what's going on in the world and cut thru the BS.

In a world which is now meant to be so advanced, we seem unable to even come close to spending the time we should on the things which really matter!
