Replying To The_analyser:  "So as expected a short return to Div 1 for us due to the late management appointment and big player turnover from last summer. We were given hope from the opening 3 games of staying up but as they say its the hope that does kill you.

Yes we were only one point off from staying up and were inches away from earning a win against Tyrone but we never recovered from letting that 7 point lead slip in that match and went into the Cavan game with the wrong mindset and were well beaten. After that we had little or no chance of beating or even drawing against Galway,Dublin,Kerry.

Most disappointing thing was that we have gone back to our defensive worst in our last four games and our energy, intensity in our play simply wasn't there to be competitive in Div 1 games.

We have been here before though matter of fact only 9 years ago we were relegated to Div 4 so its a matter of taking the positives and learning experience against the best sides in Ireland into the championship now, hope to cut out the silly mistakes, improve fitness and once again find a structure and system for our defence that will stick."
A lot of Roscommon people were in confident mood after the monaghan game saying yous would only have to show up in the last games to stay up. Arguably Roscommon played better football than monaghan and were more competitive but didnt have that cuteness or class act to stay up.

No harm to monaghan supporters i wouldn't be getting too smug about staying in division one. Poor league showings and relied on other results to stay there, I hope its some master plan by management to go all out in the championship, but i dont know players look sluggish

I'd like to know who and where are these "lot of Roscomon people" because we in the main are realistic and very cautious bunch. In the last 4 games we did not play better football or were as competitive as Monaghan but at the end of the day it was us not getting any point in the last 4 games that kept Monaghan up.

cuteness or class act to stay up? monaghansmad last message i would call that being smug anyways onto the championship and hopefully as i said management have targeted it this year, and yes some players need to buck up their ideas or we might only have 2 games left this year hows that for a sobering thought?

Hard to disagree. Monaghan were poor through the league with a slack defence and under constant pressure in midfield. Playing Dublin first day out was a bonus.

Looking at the quality of the teams promoted, a repeat performance in 2020 will spell the end of the current stint on Div1. In many ways Roscommon and Cavan both played better spells of football at times but didn't get the breaks.

But look, Mayo stayed up with the last kick of the campaign last year. You have to put yourself in a position to be lucky.
Blank slate for the championship, 50:50 in Kingspan Breffni as usual.

I took that as banter with out Cavan neighbours . Maybe I misread it. If it's smug I'll agree monaghan absloutly have nothing to be smug about

That's generally how a league works. Teams get points for winning games. Do you know how silly it's sounds to say that Roscommon not getting any points in last 4 games kept Monaghan up...... getting no points in those games (conceding lots) is what put you down!!!

The last number of years 4 points wouldn't have kept Monaghan up as between 5 or 6 points is generally required. We only required one point from our remaining 4 games to survive and if we did that i wouldn't be on here boasting survival like you Monaghan lads as i would know we would be lucky to stay up with just 4 points.

I will stick with Kerry to win it on Sunday.

I certainly not boasting especially after leaving 2 points in Hyde park that were there for taking. Monaghan should never have put themselves in the position that we were relying on results from other teams to survive.
