Replying To Northsidegaels:  "Disagree you were taking shots from way out because of a strong wind behind your backs, a lot of teams tend to do this you were not good enough to work the ball in. 15 men behind the ball at all times sickening to watch I cannot believe fermanagh have been praised so highly when that's the way they play football"
I'm not having a dig at Meath here but you literally played the exact same way. If you say you didn't you either weren't at the game or have a visual impairment.

Anyway on the game itself we missed a crazy amount of chances from positions that we should have been scoring from. If we could shoot we would be one of the better sides in the country but that has been our achilles heel for years.

Best of luck next week to RD and co. Nice crowd down in Navan yesterday and have to say you were very hospitable.

It's a race to be the nicest supporter in the world. Pass the bucket."
There'd be no fear of Tyrone winning that race anyway :-) Tyrone look to be really coming into form, McShane at FF and the longer ball is working well. Very worrying.

Job done for Donegal, it been a good league getting lads games and a few of them have really stepped up in recent games after looking nervous in earlier games. Overall we were pretty lucky to get promoted but we'll take that after being unlucky to be relegated last year.

Should be a good open game on Saturday. Would have to fancy Meath, I think they will be more interested in getting the silverware.

Hard luck yesterday gotmilk, yous started like a house on fire and if yous had kicked even half the wides over the bar we'd have been under serious pressure.

Fermanagh do play defensively but so what, you do what you have to do and that's their system. We certainly funnelled back in numbers aswell but we had to, yous were murdering us in the opening stages of the game.

But I think this is a sign of maturity for us, we were walkovers for far too long in my opinion. Ideally you want to see open, attacking football and if you have the ability to play that way then go for it. But occasionally you do need to get numbers behind the ball and commit the odd cynical foul, it's naive to think otherwise and I think weve copped on a little bit.

......of course the old Meath teams never committed cynical fouls ;-)

Terrific for Meath to finally get promoted. Its been a long wait. Haven't felt this positive since 2010.
Hopefully this is springboard to competing in S8 this year and building further.
Promotion is no guarantee of continuing development, just have to look at D1 campaigns by Westmeath, Laois, Down etc over the years that led to nothing. I'm wary of a false dawn for now I'm going to enjoy this little moment of positivity.

Congratulations to Meath on their promotion. A proud footballing county on the way back up.

What? I'll be cheering for Meath, Mayo, Liatroim in their respective finals. Don't mind who wins the hurling and prefer if Louth win Div 3.

Meath did play defensive at times but that is what happens when you play a defensive team. Meath play ball when the other team wants to like the Armagh game, Kildare game and then when we played Cork and Fermanagh we played more defensively because you can't throw everybody forward and give the counter-attacking team the chance to counter-attack

Perhaps it stems from a wee gesture from Meath County secretary Mairead Delaney before the league match in Ballybofey, only days after a terrible tragedy which directly impacted players on the Donegal panel and many fans.

Replying To Caoimhog88:  "There are players sitting on the bench that can and do shoot the lights out when on the field... Cian Oneill is consistently fielding Paddy Brophy even when he is in atrocious form and obviously having massive confidence issues. Its hard to watch and unfair on the player i think. Kildare fans are livid because we have the raw material for a great team but lads are not happy to sit on a bench so are leaving the panel, heading to america etc"
I would agree with that sentiment, I think Kildare do have the raw ingredients for a great team, or certainly the core of a very good team. They under-performed, I thought they would make the jump back up, but they never seemed to get momentum.

Meath have been the Story of DIvision 2 this year, solid throughout, and look like they have something about them again as they head towards Championship.

Division 2 was tight and competitive, with very little between many of the teams in head to head fixtures.

Actually now that I think off I cant remember the last time Meath beat Donegal. That qualifier in Croke in 2002 was in Navan 2 years.

Don't think they played much in the championship. I can remember losing in 2017 in navan all so 2002 in Croke park two back door games, but we did beat them in the all ireland final in 1990. As for the league we lost this year we drew in 2014 and I can remember losing to them in navan in 2011 before that I don't know.

Sad state of affairs when a bit of civility between supporters of different counties gets a response like that.

Do they still play the ABBA music at half time in Navan for games? Witnessed it during the qualifier game there in 2017. Had to hear it to believe it, during a championship game of all things.

They've only played the 3 times in the championship ever, with Donegal 2-1 ahead (winning 2002 and 2017, losing 1990).

Before this season, they'd only apparently met 3 times in the league as well with Donegal winning twice (2010 and 2011) and drawing once (2014).

A bit surprised by that - ships in the night and all.

We played a few time against each other in the league in the late 80s and early 90s

We beat them in out first ever year in Division 1 in 1988 I think it was when they were All Ireland Champions

Remember a league quarter final game around 1990/1991 between us too.
