I was at the Laois Meath game, and while I was unsure about the new rules, it actually gave to a better spectacle, now ok Meath seemed to have done their homework on it while Laois seemed to not know the first thing about it, but it meant a open game even though the conditions were horrendous. Has it won me over yet? Not entirely, but I am less unsure after what I seen.

From what I saw, the handpass rule is actually going to have a negative effect. Carlow V Westmeath at the weekend on several occasions going forward both teams made handpasses and when there was no opening there was a big long footpass backwards up the field and the ball recycled again when another 1 or 2 handpasses may have created openings for scoring opportunities. I feel this will actually result in lower scoring games.

Half time in the Derry Tyrone GA e and already we've had the whistle blown 7 times on the handpass rule..all of these moves were fast incisive moves on the verge of breaking down the defence..also we have had players blown up for over carrying when they had to delay after reaching 3 handpass..now can I just ask the advocates of this stupid rule. Would you rather see a player kick the ball backwards of see a player put a colleague through for a score with a handpass?

A few weeks into the experimental rules and it's already evident they are not working with the sin bin the only plausible one so far .it's incredible that it took a committee sitting for 6 months and this was the best they could come up with . unbelievable!

The handpass is the rule that has to go, making games even slower and more defensive than ever as well as totally confusing players. The others are not so bad from what I've seen so far.

Gaelic football is a fairly safe game. The kind of heavy "hits" and "blocks" we see in other sports are illegal. So that is a big positive for Gaelic in my opinion. There is not the ferocious tackling we see in other sports.

Player safety should be a big issue for the GAA- not just the entertainment value. Any changes that risk player injury should not be entertained. GAA player are amateurs, they do not get paid to play. If injured they will not be paid: like their professional Soccer and Rugby comrades.

Just watched back Kieran O'Leary's superb goal for crokes on this site . Under these crazy rules that goal would never have stood as there was 4 handpasses in build up to his stunning strike.

Yes the Kick was stunning. But was the 4 handpasses as pretty? I dont think so. You can agrue all day about the beauty of handpassing but at the end of the day it doesnt require the same level of skill as a kick. Keep up the handpassing and you will have dour game with the odd excuse for keeping it that way.

Was at my first game with the new rules. Sweet Jesus the handpass one is a mess. Who in their right mind thought that this was a good idea? It killed attacking play. It led to lads kicking the ball for the sake of it. Led to ridiculous passes, poor passes and suicide passes. Numerous goal scoring chances were killed due to it. Lads were turning round and booting the ball 30 yards back because they couldn't lay off a pass to a man running off the shoulder. Anyone who says that this rule is needed really needs to attend a game.

Well said

It's honestly up there as the most daft rule change I have ever seen.

It's simply not Gaelic Football at present.

I won't be spending a single cent attending a league game in 2019 if that's what's on offer.

I won't be supporting such ineptitude.

It's a very disappointing thought as I'm very much looking forward to the leagues, it's a competition that I really enjoy but feck that I just can't support such an ill thought out rule that will completely ruin the games on offer.

I genuinely hope the players make their own stand against this. I'll support them 100%. I believe the GPA will be given a strong mandate from the players to block the introduction of this shambles and if the GAA ignore this then there's simply no way I'll be attending any games.

I think it is degrading to the league if any of these changes are introduced. The League is a great competition at the right time of the year and does not deserve to be treated as if it is some pre season competition. All counties get seven good competitive games at a scheduled time and it can be more important than the championship in some cases.

These new rules are the result of whinging by anti Gaelic football pundits and newspapers. Basically these pundits are not Gaelic fans- and no matter what was changed would not watch Gaelic. They are fans of other codes in other words.
