Leinster SFC 2019

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

So Offaly it is with the familiar face of John Maughan in the sideline, seeing as Dublin & Kildare are in the other side we have a fighting chance of reaching a Leinster Final and it should be a target, hopefully the Offaly game will be in Navan and even if PT is being renovated we should fight hard to have it at home on the basis that we were first out of the drum, we travelled to an under construction Pearse Park last year that had a JCB stuck behind one of the goals and a 6000 capacity so i see no reason why we can't hsve a home game in similar circumstances. Anyway plenty of tough games ahead but our lads should be looking forward to championship now, everyone on our side of the draw will be thinking it's the best draw they could have got with the Dubs and Kildare over the far side.

No garauntees for us these days but if we put in a level of performance that we saw against Tyrone we might come through this one. Offaly will be rejuvenated by JM's appointment and he'll take a fair amount of pleasure in putting us to the sword. We can't afford slow starts.

This message will likely be in Tullamore as a policy was introduced for 2018 season whereby Division 3 and 4 teams had home advantage against Division 1 and 2 teams irrespective of which name came out first in the draw !

Pity that doesn't apply to the vast majority of Division 3 or 4 teams if they draw the Dubs

"Leinster CCC will have final say over Venues for all Leinster Championship games and as such has ruled that should Dublins Quarter Final be played away from Croke Park it can take place at any of four other venues; Bord na Móna O'Connor Park Tullamore, Innovate Wexford Park, O'Moore Park Portlaoise and Nowlan Park Kilkenny".

Meath should easily get to a Leinster Final.

No offence to Offaly but we should be beating them easily even though we were terrible last year vs Longford i would rate Longford a lot higher then Offaly.

I think people are forgetting how bad Meath were last year, Offaly will be no pushovers. I just hope Andy widens his selection of players rather than picking from the same clubs....nothing personal against Ratoath but their representation on the panel should be limited to McGill and McMahon. We need players with guts and determination, that react when the chips are down and that put some fear into their opponents . Ever since the Westmeath championship defeat, performances have largely resulted in embarrassment, something I never thought I'd say about a Meath team at the final whistle. Hopefully some pride can be restored this year.

I don't think selection should have any bearing of club - it should be the best players available, the best players who can and will commit to what the Management team are asking of them! It shouldn't matter what club they are from - and it shouldn't matter if 10 (or all of them) of them are from the same club! As far as I know, Andy has no personal connections to Ratoath so I don't believe he would have any ulterior motive for picking Ratoath players ahead of anyone else. I think form will dictate selection and I would suggest that the form of the Ratoath players will see their numbers on the squad reduced anyway.

I Live on the offaly border and have seen some games in the offaly championship, with the exception of Rhode the last number of years the standard is very average, offaly are a poor team and maughan taking this job is almost bewildering, can't see him doing anything there in his term, as average as we are we would be easily a 7/8 point better team than offaly, on the other hand the winners of laois/westmeath will be no push over as i see us on par with both but capable of beating both to set us up for a thumping from the old enemy

Good man lurch, talking about Offaly and then straight into talking about the semi against Leix/Westmeath and then the Dubs in the final .... forgetting all about Carlow as you go along there.

Just like Kildare did 12 months ago, keep that up all winter please and encourage others from Meath to do likewise.

Don't worry any meath supporters with an ounce of footballing knowledge wont be forgetting about Carlow. Although we won't be thinking them for a long time. Or laois or westmeath. Only thing we learned from last year. We're not good enough to be focusing on anyone but our next opponent which in this case is offaly.

Not been seeded could have had a disaster draw. Tbh I think Andy will be very happy with that draw. That been said as last year proved nothing and no team can be taken for granted. I'll be honest if we don't beat Offaly on day one then they whole set up should just go. Offaly are a shambles and Maugham won't change that. Carlow will put 15 behind the ball , so already that should be looked at, again though we should have enough up front to edge it, Laois or the weaties? I think we will be hearing that irritating chant, but again I think we will have enough up front to edge it. Then we have 2 games to get one result. That's how we should look at it. Forget who we may face in a Leinster final. , if we get there.

Offaly v Meath will be an interesting tie. Offaly were a bit of a bogey side for Meath knocking them out twice when Meath were All Ireland Champions in 1997 and 2000.

On paper its a fantastic draw for Meath. Offaly, Carlow,Westmeath/Laois before a potential Leinster final?! Great draw. But as 2019 approaches the reality is drastically different. Who knows what Offaly could be like under Maughan, Carlow are as confident and competetive as ever and Laois/Westmeath arent to be shrugged at. It wont be easy at all.
Concentrate on Div.2, build up a team using the Tyrone performance as a standard and Meath would be at the standard required for a trip to croker to play Dublin on Leinster final day. Big "ifs" though and the Longford disaster last season should be proof we cant rest on our laurels at all anymore.

Have to admit it's great draw for us but in reality are we goin on an upward or downward spiral. New football coach in now nally should been done 2 year ago. Will we have full compliment of players on board.saying forget the lads that walked really not in my view a good sign for next year. To get new players ready physically for inter county football you would need 2 year with them.hearinf the wallaces not coming on board lenihan travelling . Newman supposed to b coming back plus there but overall our football is poor standard tyrone game gave us hope will it b false let's see.

Longford, kildare and Dublin all on the other side. Best draw possible. Still not easy on our side since we are poor these days. Obviously we have zero chance of beating Dublin in the final but at least we'll only be 1 qualifier match from the super 8.

Looks like the ideal draw for Meath, no Dublin. Kildare or Longford in our side, however few would be suprised if we are beaten by Offaly in first round. This precevied easy draw will put extra pressure on management and players to deliver a Leinster final appearance. A lot needs to be put right over next six months to achieve this.
