I agree with you but I was just saying it's a shame that more couldn't have seen him play all due to geography. How many other Joe Henry's have we not seen?

Same could also be said of great footballers were never saw because they were in hurling strong counties.

That is true. In my life time I can name a Waterford football team never mind individual players that would match any other team. There Waterford championship used to be unreal in the 30's and 40's with St. John's training college participating. They had the pick of Ireland with greats from Kerry, Cavan and other counties playing. Our local little parish once beat them in the final with my dad playing.
I started this thread because of having the pleasure of seeing Joe play. There were many others from other so called weak counties like Par Dunning from Kildare and many many more.

Not as an extreme a problem as football is more spread out than Hurling. Other than Kilkenny I can't see a county that that's a problem in.

Joe Henry was a class hurler. Sure John Connolly of Galway spent his best years in the Wilderness also in Galway. We never saw the best of him in his youth. Henry was very loyal to Mayo. Surely he could have moved to Galway.

John was one of the most graceful hurlers I ever saw. Smooth as silk and clean as a whistle because he allowed his stick work define him. Joe would have got a lot recognition playing with Galway but it shows the character of the man staying with his own county.
