Up For The Match

It really is sad that the best RTE can do for an All-Ireland is this rubbish. Same crap year in and year out.

It is so stale

UFTM can be very cringeworthy but from a totally biased Limerick point of view this year's hurling UFTM had an inspirational segment.

The students from Corpus Christi in Moyross sang their hearts out for themselves & Limerick. This is an area of Limerick often spoken about in negative terms. To see those kids displaying their brilliance, well lets just say it gave Limerick a lift.

When you think of it though is what UFTM does any different to Off the Ball? Stories from the past a chat about the present and cheesy jokes. For Des Cahill/Grainne Seoige read Joe Molloy or Ger Gilroy. Similar fare really.

Up for the match brings out the cringiest people of Ireland.
Whatever about the songs, etc in studio (I agree the Moyross group on the hurling one were great), when they go down the country etc to see the hype, I go behind the couch and cringe.

Are you having a laugh, Off the Ball is quality stuff, full off great interviews, insights etc into all sports, whereas Up for the Match is cringeworthy, embarrassing, and basically almost as bad if not worse than the Rose of Tralee.

Agreed. While Newstalk's GAA coverage was considerably weakened since Colm Parkinson left. There's no comparison with Up for the Match. RTE view GAA fans as lovable bog warriors who will watch any old rubbish, and that's what they get. If Monaghan had qualified for the Final, there would have been Nudie, Barry McGuigan and if he'd still been with us, Big Tom. It's TV aimed at a 70 year old without a working remote.

Look lads, if ye're looking for hard nosed analysis, ye're not gonna get it on up for the match. It's safe, folksy Saturday evening entertainment before the All Ireland final.

But thank God it's not a Dublin - Kerry final, I don't think I could cope with any more anecdotes from the 70s/80s rivalry.
