Nobody seems to know what has happened here. Was there a row between management and Cora over her playing in Australia and are the Carnacon ladies leaving in sympathy with her? If player welfare is actually the issue will that encourage some players to consider the AFL ladies league? GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts: 7335 - 15/07/2018 10:05:28 2121943 Link 3 |
if player welfare is an issue why didnt everyone walk out ? waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13650 - 15/07/2018 10:34:25 2121957 Link 4 |
If that is as you say then it looks like the County board is backing the coach and the club is backing its players a bit of an impasse.

Great win for the ladies yesterday. Those who walked away on their team should be told to stay away until next year. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11227 - 15/07/2018 11:49:03 2121986 Link 4 |
Welfare issues didn't arise overnight so I'm not buying that line. Walking out on your county before a big match is inexcusable and I agree with Yewtree that they should be told to take a hike. ponga (Mayo) - Posts: 647 - 15/07/2018 11:59:32 2121992 Link 0 |
Mayo Ladies County Board have removed Carnacon from the county championship. Carnacon are appealing the decision to Connacht. Looks like this mess isn't going to be fixed anytime soon. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 23/08/2018 14:37:24 2135963 Link 0 |
Looks to me as though they used "player welfare" as an excuse to justify petty/tantrum behaviour. If this is the case then falsely accusing the management/co board of not looking after the welfare of the players is pretty serious and would deserve a charge of bringing the association into disrepute. 890202 (Wexford) - Posts: 1278 - 23/08/2018 15:08:05 2135978 Link 3 |
Can anyone explain what happened from start to finish and why?? The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 2088 - 23/08/2018 15:40:44 2135997 Link 0 |

Being on the board for any LGFA county is an onerous and thankless task; like the players, they are all volunteers, and unlike the GAA, they have no money. It seems like the Carnacon boycott was a tantrum, and they deserve what they got befair (Down) - Posts: 237 - 24/08/2018 16:05:19 2136343 Link 1 |
Someone has to be the grown up in these situations, tit for tat gets us nowhere. However no one is under an obligation to play inter county or indeed no one has a divine right to either. lillyboy (Kildare) - Posts: 429 - 24/08/2018 16:40:06 2136353 Link 2 |

Seen latest news conference absolutely none the wiser, a conference to state reasons in the public domain are incorrect ,fair enough but then to state without any back up it was to do with negative environment etc very peculiar Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 18/09/2018 09:07:32 2142360 Link 4 |
Bizarre conference. No new details. Unsafe is so vague and I think this has made them look even worse. This was the time to let it blow over and move on. Kingofthehill100 (Mayo) - Posts: 68 - 18/09/2018 10:02:28 2142374 Link 1 |

A manager is entitled to call a player lazy if he feels they are? Commitment isn't showing up to training it is giving your all when you are there. Few players couldn't deal with a managers honest opinion. If this is player welfare then sport as we know it is no more. Would not encourage males to get involves in ladies football if this is a trend. Kingofthehill100 (Mayo) - Posts: 68 - 18/09/2018 11:22:13 2142404 Link 2 |
It's strange that it was mainly players from one club who had their mental health impacted upon. This whole thing is bizzare. I want to believe the players that left but the vagueness and weakness of their reasons make it hard to not think they left because some of them weren't happy with being dropped or weren't happy with how they were criticised. Don't get me wrong, they're fully entitled to leave the panel of they so wish for the reasons outlined but it's really hard to see what point they're trying to make. "It's not about being dropped or criticism but about how being dropped and criticised affects our mental health". I don't know unless there is something that they're not telling us it's hard not to believe the narrative out there. That they threw the toys outta the pram over selection issues and are trying to justify it by painting the entire Mayo camp as a place that is unsafe and full of bullys, but only if you're from the one club for some reason. Breakaway group making claims that are very serious but not backing them up, people's reputations being destroyed by insinuations. Either put precise details out there privately to a mediator or make them public or step back. It seems to be driven by certain individuals, who would bother managing a team now, especially male managers when your reputation can be destroyed with serious welfare allegations. This story needs to get to court & the truth to come out. Uimhir.a.3. (Galway) - Posts: 409 - 18/09/2018 11:50:41 2142413 Link 0 |
Not looking good for the girls that walked out... Seems that the managers interview with Parkinson was all truth, the ladies are back tracking by the looks of it... the ban for Carnacon should still stand, teach them a lesson. millers (Galway) - Posts: 87 - 18/09/2018 11:51:10 2142414 Link 1 |
Very odd situation. If the manager wasnt any good you'd expect the whole panel to walk but in this instance is seems to be just 1 club involved. Move on without them i say. The county board should announce that he is being kept on for an extended 12 months just to show the club involved where they stand.
