Replying To ballydalane:  "I have a vague recollection of the 86 final, I know Argentina beat West Germany 3-2 so it must have been ok but was too young to really take it in. I do recall the following: 1990 West Germany 1 Argentina 0, Brehme penalty (sh1te match); 1994 Brazil beat Italy on penalties after a 0-0 borefest; 1998 France 3 Brazil 0, no contest; 2002 Brazil 2 Germany 0, handy win for Brazil; 2006 Italy beat France on penalties after 1-1 draw, only thing remembered from that match is Zidane's headbutt; 2010 Spain 1 Netherlands 0, horrific match; 2014 Germany 1 Argentina 0, another boring match.

I don't dislike soccer but the World Cup final, specifically, is consistently the biggest anti-climax in world sport. 10 goals in the last 7 finals, three or four of which went to extra time so really it's more like 10 goals in 8 matches."
I like soccer. You're right about the finals. The first I saw was England v West Germany, but I was a young lad and have no memories of the game. The World Cup is a month long competition, every four years, featuring countries from all around the world, who wouldn't normally play each other competitively. It's not just the matches, it's the fans, the colour and of course the host country that make it a spectacle. Some of the matches are brilliant, others not so. I will be watching Sunday's final. Then again, I don't like Gaelic football.

I think the world cup final should move.
There will be massive interest in this game among the neutrals

Double screening at home for me I think.

Might knock in for the Mon/Kildare game if they've the hill open and then pop home for the WC Final/Gal v Kerry.

Not many of them French lads would make it playing ball or hurling here. Some of them Croats though are hardy bucks. Yer man Vida could probably be a Francie Bellew type of full back. Manzukic would be a great target man, tough as nails and what he'd like in pace due to old sge he'd make up with some dark arts. Hon Croatia!
